Re: Games you are playing

I was going to let this slide, but you annoyed me. Fire Emblem may not have mind games, but it certainly has deception, and there are actually many times where you cannot determine where and when the AI will strike. This is interesting though. I haven't experienced anything like this, probably becau...

Re: Games you are playing

No need to be so rude eh? Maybe this scale will clarify my thinking a bit: Puzzle game (Sokoban etc.): If X then Y - extrapolate enough turns ahead and you have a challenge | Typical Japanese strategy game (FE, Advance Wars): If X then Y, but with a tiny bit of randomisation - extrapolate enough tur...

Re: Games you are playing

I'm not hung up on the puzzle definition and it really doesn't matter for the sake of any of my arguments. Fire Emblem may not have mind games, but it certainly has deception, and there are actually many times where you cannot determine where and when the AI will strike. This is interesting though. ...

Re: Games you are playing

^ Valkyria Chronicles is fun! :3 Even though you can make turrets forget that you're there very easily. Even in Hong's description above it seems to me he/she (sorry) is perfectly describing a puzzle game that only differs from a self-described puzzle game in that it has a wider set of optimum move...

Re: Games you are playing

Re: Chess and Go. No because the optimum moves are not so clearly flagged. They are boring to watch, sure, but not to play. In both traditional abstract games and games like FE the possible range of moves is large and many moves have near-identical levels of utility, but in chess and Go everything i...

Re: Games you are playing

A complaint I've heard about Fire Emlem, and it seems fairly accurate for Sacred Stones, is that it's more of a puzzle game than a strategy game. With the exception of the occasional scipted movement patterns (cavalry that appear behind you part way through the level and move along the same path yo...

Re: Why Are You Happy Today?

Thanks guys. I lived in Japan for almost 7 years, travelled for a while and am back living here indefinitely. I studied pretty intensively during my third year here, then took 2kyuu during my 6th year here without any problems. After returning to Japan I studied intensively for about 4 months, took ...

Re: Why Are You Happy Today?

I just got the N1 Japanese language proficiency test results and I passed!

So as far as Japanese reading and listening comprehension goes I have the highest level certification available. Should help my employment prospects some.

Re: Smallest possible party to do a full-clear? Anyone try i

With paladin/ranger I can see the following: As long as the dragon alternates debuff and breath your paladin can anti-shock and buff defence every other turn. Problem is your damage output is low (vs. 35000hp) so you'll soon hit the stage where the dragon is using random skills and have to anti-shoc...

Re: Smallest possible party to do a full-clear? Anyone try i

All I can say for sure is that they usually do an erase all buffs move followed by a hit all for 1300+ elemental damage move. Both are head skills. If you bind the head they will do a shield buff and spam the 2000 point heal, both are arm skills. The only way I can see Medic/Dark hunter working is i...

Re: Smallest possible party to do a full-clear? Anyone try i

I assume the medic/dark hunter team aren't going to face the post-game dragons? Or is it possible without a paladin?

Re: Suicide

PLA is immortal, who knew? My brother was suicidal at one point, he thought he was gay (but isn't) and was paranoid from continuous weed use and just being surrounded by really shitty homophobic people day in, day out. Luckily he called me and I got him out of that situation. He quit his university ...
