Spam Bots?

I've been noticing that the forum gets new members every now and then, ones that never posts anything, and almost all of them having very peculiar names hinting that they are spam bots.

But definitely, it couldn't be as more obvious than this one that just popped in and posted movies for sale in the EO section: http://www.intothelabyrinth.net/forums/ ... ile&u=1727

Or am I wrong?

We're well overdue for a forum upgrade, but it's just finding the time to do it as it's a large task to get the forums matching the current ones. The actual movement of data and users is really easy, but the customisation isn't easy as the new system has an entirely new way of creating forum skins, and one that I'm personally not familiar with.

It'll get done soon, and once it's done the spam bots will disappear slowly.

I deleted the posts and that account. Thanks for pointing it out. I periodically do try and weed out the spam bots as I spot them, it's just ;____; time consuming.

I've added some more questions to the textual confirmation screen. We now require a random code to be submitted, e-mail confirmation and for the user to answer a question. There's always going to be systems that circumvent the system, we've nearly got the same registration protection as the latest forum software. We just need to skin the new forum software (Maxine you might be able to do that actually, probably more au fait with CSS and HTML than I am these days!) and then it can go live.
