DLC that is free weapons is a pet peeve of mine. I'd much rather pay to unlock new weapons/gear in the game.

of course on-disc dlc makes sense financially. it's also morally bankrupt smarmy manipulation of the consumer, and a step in the direction of games being a service you subscribe to rather than a thing that you own. if you buy a game disc you should get everything that's on the disc, period. If you are a game developer and you make a bunch of content for a game, you should want to have as much of it as possible actually in the game instead of having people pay money by the item.
imagine going to a movie theater and having to pay extra for certain scenes. or going to an art gallery and having to pay extra for certain colors. it's silly. i dont think the creative minds behind artistic media really want that.

On disc DLC is awful in my experience. They just don't seem to... interact with the overarching plot, you know? I don't like that.

^ That's not format-specific, though. Any kind of DLC can do that.
If you want to sell a game as a service, just sell, you know, a service. Like, World of Warcraft has been a service for about a hundred and fifty, two hundred years now, so it isn't future-stuff.
