Best methods in order of bell return:
1) Stalk market
2) Island
3) Exporting perfect fruit
4) Money trees (requires golden shovel)

For the island, you want to go starting from 7 PM to 8 AM. You can start at 5, though at 7 you will get more beetles and no locusts. If you only catch the bugs on the tropical trees and sharks, and you should get minimum 400k a trip. The Giant Stag, Scarab Beetle, and Rainbow Stag all run for quite a bit and appear on the regular trees, so you can catch those as well if you want. Some people opt to chop them down, believing the game can only spawn so many bugs at a time.

If you are serious about efficiency, you should contour the island for more efficient farming. I have my tropical trees arrayed in such a way that they don't visibly block each other, and when I farm them I just alternate between east and west.

As a reminder: all the tropical tree beetles are very sensitive to sound and motion. Don't push the circle pad to the edge as it is enough to scare away the golden stag, even from a distance. The except to this is the Goliath Beetle, who isn't frightened unless you run or miss with the net.

Even if you go from 100 bells and sell them at 150, that is a good trade. I say it is better to buy and lose out on a smaller number, than to not try at all.

Next week I am going to try changing my ordinance on Saturday and then switching back to a wealthy ordinance on Sunday. This way, the buying value should go down by 20% on Sunday and up 20% for the rest of the week!
