This is a series that I've been way into for several years now... Maybe since 1998?

Anyone else into these games? It's all gone downhill, sadly, but I'm still geeky about the older titles, Soul Hackers in particular

This game "series" really confuses me with everything, as there seems to be several branches.

Now, I have pre-ordered Persona 3. And from what I was told that Revelations: Demon Slayer was also part of this series as well. (But neither are connected). So.. is this just a bunch of games under a particular title but, like Final Fantasy, have little to do with each other except certain elements?

Heh, it's not really a series; not even in a Final Fantasy sense. They branch apart in a lot of different directions, but it basically works like this:

Megami Tensei - Megami Tensei II

Shin Megami Tensei - Shin Megami Tensei II - Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne - Shin Megami Tensei if...

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers - Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou vs. The Soulless Army

Revelations: Persona - Person 2: Innocent Sin - Persona 2: Eternal Punishment - Persona 3

Last Bible - Last Bible II - Last Bible III

Majin Tensei - Majin Tensei II - RONDE (This one is awful...)

There are very loose connections between some of them. For example, if you go into a bar at the start of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner you'll see a news report on television about a nuclear missile strike aimed at Tokyo being aborted. That's a reference to an event that occured in Shin Megami Tensei. Might simply be a cute reference, or it could also be evidence of Devil Summoner occurring on a separate, branching timeline. I dunno. The connections between titles are fairly tenuous anyway.

The game we received as Revelations: The Demon Slayer is the first game in the Last Bible sub-series, by the way. It's sort of like taking general MegaTen game mechanics and positing them in a fantasy setting. It's not my favorite series, but I still thought Last Bible 3 was kinda fun for awhile.

Heh, that screenshot is from Megami Tensei II -- the Super Famicom re-release that was combined with Megami Tensei I. Great game

SMT has several bugs in it if you use fan translation wherein you cannot complete the game. I am serious. I have beaten the game on Neutral path without a fan translation no problem. I tried using the fan translation and found several things:

[spoiler]1) I could not finish the Law Path because I could not save the Octopus.
2) I was on the Neutral path, and I attempted to defeat both Chaotic and Lawful deities, starting with the Law. I then went off to Chaotic, and then that dude treated me as if I were on the Chaotic path.
3) Same thing happened when I tried again starting with Chaotic.[/spoiler]

It's a great game, just not worth playing if you're using buggy fan translations.

I've heard mention of buggy fan translations. However, I'll do the best that I can and at least I have this much of the game. :\ *sigh*
