Two (three) words: Boo-fucking-hoo.
One word?
Though, seriously, how the hell does this even matter? Or who the hell is even surprised? Atlus caters to a niche market and, quite frankly, that market is filled with guys who enjoy those kinds of fanservice shots. I can't even see how the hell this even matters as far as Atlus as a company; sure, the marketing campaign is probably dumb and sexist but who cares.

Incidentally, the artwork is "official" so ... yeah. To expect something to satisfy crazy-yaoi-fangirl-I'm running out of words here from them is a bit ridiculous. The artists behind most of these are guys who enjoy drawing up their creations sexually. Alert the presses. Atlus (USA) is just working with what they have.
I'd like to take the time to state that no amount of fanservice can make Steal Princess not be terrible.

Also, I hate the Steal Princess artwork in general.
Again, it's official artwork - I have no problem with it. Nor do I have a problem with it existing. Double standards nothing. What is that Rule 34 or something? Porn exists. Nor do I have a problem with Atlus USA offering fan-servicing art as a bonus. I REALLY enjoyed my Izuna 2 art.

But... they are carrying it overboard. It's the ONLY thing they seem to be offering these days. Trauma Center survey... Izuna posters.... and this...

It's like "can you please offer something else?" I enjoy surfing for hentai (well, if you bothered, you'd have realized that most of our pics in the NSFW thread are ecchi and some are just merely kissing or holding hands). But, when it comes to a game company, their standards, and the bonuses they are offering: I want a balance between sexism and awesome artwork.

There's a difference between fans searching for it and posting up their favorite pieces to be observed by their online buddies and a company offering it whether the person wants it or not.

:\ Personally, I'm also getting annoyed with the fact that it's not even wallpaper or ANYTHING. it's just.... perrty picture.... <_< I can't do anything with it to display it if I did want to.

@Scy and Atlus working with what they have: Okay, it's not wallpaper size or anything but it's just quick notice BUT an image like this exists: http://i.blasteroids.com/screenshots/st ... _17846.jpg that is not on display on their website. What would have been wrong with them offering this image? I understand working within what they have, but there's a LOT of images that Atlus USA has that they don't work with a lot of times.

Rule 34 - "If it exists, there is porn of it. No exceptions."
Rule 35 - "If there is not porn of it, porn will be made of it."

That image would be pretty awful as a bonus. Looking past the content, the one's Atlus offered are High-Quality and High-Res. Incidentally, I don't even get this whole "LOOK IMAGE" as a "bonus" ... that whole idea in general I can't wrap my head around but that's a different issue entirely.

I agree that it's a little distasteful to promote the game via "look HOT SHOTS!" but, to be honest, I don't really care. The market is, still, mostly male and Atlus knows their (male) users. The running joke with Atlus and their "weeaboo" crowd is pretty much true (oh boy, I really just cited Fatlus comics oh god the world ends now).

Quite frankly, it just comes down to the game. Yes, sex sells. These games, however, did not originally. Like I said, they know their users and if that's what it takes for a sale, that's what they'll do. Their "mainline" games are rather devoid of this treatment. Maybe I'll find the energy to care if they doll up and whore out Devil Summoner (wouldn't be hard with Yuzu so I better watch what I say huh).
And blame Marvelous or Climax (probably Climax) since it's their art that Atlus is releasing if you have a disdain for the content. Even early scans for Steal Princess had it leaning more towards "look hot!" than not, though not to the level of these pictures.

Knights in the Nightmare, for example, has an amazing artbook bonus but isn't getting whored out. There ISN'T art available to whore out.
Like Kino said: I hope I'm not offending anyone and I'm just enjoying this conversation ^_^; so I hope nobody gets the wrong idea. We need a good topic to rant about around here once in a while.

LOL @ image: I found it 3mins before I had to go to work. I was talking about what was portrayed. You know if I can find it, they have it available in high resolution. PLUS, the have psd files of characters and backdrops from games. And I know this for fact with the power of a press pass.

I understand where you would be under the impression that they have a predominantly male fan club. But, you are missing a very big fact there Scy: Look around at our forum members. We are predominantely female. ~_^ We are a crowd that exists ESPECIALLY if you give us an environment where we (and yes, I'm refering to my experiences on the Atlus forums) are not screamed at "TITS OR GTFO"

Some games beg for the sexism exclusive shots. Izuna was one of them - the posters were fantastic. But whenever I've looked up Steal Princess, the first thing that jumps to mind is NOT the sexism of the game - the art is too terrible for it and though the artwork exists, I've never imagined that the MC (Alice or something?) was big on the sexism.

I can't agree with Kino's comment on not enjoying seeing a male sexploited. Well, I wouldn't want it to be brought up constantly... still, there's no denying that an image of the MCs from Persona that were a little provocative would have been awesome. ^_^; I am too much of a fangirl for that. Still, I can agree with her that ultimately, while I think it would be cute, I still would not like to see it take over the whole scene. I think bonus art depicting game-kewlness would be far better: leave the sexism to the drawing pens of fangirls.

Seriously, this is me: the day each and EVERY single Zelda site went up on the Japanese side I was right there on top of it. Why? 'Cause if you played their little seek-and-find games (except PH didn't have one) you got kewl images: and all of them simply depicted Link's kewlness. ((OT: Personally, though, I feel that Zelda has some of the best official art ever released for any game. .... AND NONE OF IT IS SEXISM!!))

Yeah, I didn't want to come across as screaming out "double standard!" or anything. I earnestly was just wondering if there's some (to me) imperceptible difference between a picture of an anime dude sodomizing another anime dude - and I've seen at least one picture like that on the NSFW forum, although in all fairness most of the content there is as has been described: dudes holding hands and the like - and a picture of Steal Princess bending over without clothes on. I guess there is?

I guess I just can't wrap my head around it since I'm not into the whole hentai scene to begin with. I can't even tell the difference between gay manga and yaoi manga other than the fact that the former is generally done by men, and the latter by women. Apparently the differences run deeper than that, but I'll never figure it out.

Anise for the Steel Princess MC. She isn't shown too much in regards to "LOOK FANSERVICE" but a few of the initial scans had a "flirtatious" look to them. But, yeah, I didn't really expect this game to be something to go that route since, as far as I know, it is supposed to be a strong female lead. That and the art is fucking ugly. They out plastic-dolled tri-ace. How is that possible?

I do not see the relevance of the members here being predominately female. That is irrelevant unless I'm missing the point of the issue here. The problem, as I see it, is that the bonus image provided is pretty much just fanservice. That was the crux of the whole thing.

However, Atlus' fanbase is mostly male; ergo, the bonus to the fans is fanservice. It doesn't matter that those here are mostly female. You are not the target of the bonus. I never disagreed that something "neutral" could be offered as a bonus. The course of discussion moved away from "that's sexism" to "why is Atlus doing that?"

Edit: As far as the sexism is concerned, yeah, the gender of the members here skews the view. Duh. The reasoning BEHIND the image being used, however, has little to do with the members here. If this was some yaoi shot for some slash-y game and the male members had the same issue, my stance would be the same. The company is pandering to their fanbase. The members here change little on the reasoning OF THE COMPANY; the members here do change the REACTION to their actions, however.

As for yaoi VT ... meh. A lot of yaoi is still stuck in this strange state of showing boy/girl romances with a stereotypical female role ... who just happens to have a penis. Hell, quite a lot of yaoi doesn't even give a fuck to the topic of "gay" so much as it just being two guys (if that even makes sense).

I don't really go chasing for yaoi (or yuri) anime/manga but a lot could easily be "typical" romances; not many cover any LGBT issues but just "look guy/guy or girl/girl!!11!"

*shrugs*
