all this discussion of multiclassing just makes me think of D&D 3.5...

in the original game, if i remember right, you would take an exp penalty for multiclassing, but it was almost necessary for unlocking a character's full potential. in pathfinder, theres no penalty at all, but theres a powerful ability each class gets at max level, which you cant ever get if you multiclass. i suppose giving up a reward in something is better than facing a penalty to what you already can do

but yeah, avatars and signatures

5th does something similar. There's no penalty for multiclassing, but every class has a really good 20th level ability. But there are also cool things that you can do with multi-classing. But there are also plenty of things you can do without multiclassing. (Basically all of the prestige classes became class options.) I have yet to actually play 5th, though hopefully that will change soon.
