To be more on-topic, Maxine, have you tried playing Remember11? It's the game after Ever17 (though not actually related). I know nothing about it but it came up on some reading (as well as Ever17 which I'd never played but I might now since I'm hearing good things).
Plus, I find visual novels (and actual Light Novels) to be a great way to work on my Japanese >>.

Incidentally, that totally sounds like the singer for one of the Higurashi intros (Kizuna, I think? The DS one) ... which is somewhere on my list of "Hey, I should probably play that." Baaah.

As far as I can tell, unfortunately, the PS2 version is the "definitive" since it includes the "True" Ending of Miotsukushi-hen rather than just the "Good" Ending that is Matsuribayashi-hen. Bugger all.[/spoiler]
