There's the other part of me that thinks "holy fuck, Maxine, isn't this the sort of stuff you WANT to do, the sorta stuff you might be ASKED to do for an employer?"
... I've started up a document. I'm going to TOY with it. If I can't figure it out *shrugs* I can't figure it out. If I can: w00t for all of us.
Either way, I might end up learning a LOT. If I don't challenge myself with something my classes were absolutely useless and I wasted money.

The simplest way to put together images like these sigs is to use libgd. Most PHP installations have support for it enabled.
FYI, I checked Archaic's web host and your PHP installation has support for the following relevant modules compiled in at this time:
(php-5.2.14-bundled version, 2.0.34 compat) with FreeType support (2.2.1)
2.3.0
1.0.8
And all the formats you'd care about for web use are enabled in Archaic's host's PHP build.

Hrrrrm... I knew about the "gd" thing in a way - Archaic uses it on atlusblog.com. I haven't read the other pages yet but I definitely will. Anyways it's that little technique that he uses that made me think I'm sure to find something to make this do-able in some way.
What is libgd? Is that the first link? Either way, when I get up to that point I will definitely be reading into this a lot.
Coding for the images is coming along really well so far. I've no real idea yet how I'm going to do the text for character names, but I'm sure I'll figure something out. I've still got quite a bit of programming before I get to that stage, though. Depends on how fast I can hack this stuff out.
Obviously as I've said, this is not going to be the images and such used but I just want to do it simply to see what it is that I can do anyways.
