RPG Makers
Anyone ever make use of one of the various RPG Maker programs available? Examples include RG Maker 2000, 2003, VX, RPG Toolkit, and the RPG Maker console series by Agetec.
I've fiddled around with a number of different versions from time to time. The one I can get to work on my computer presently is RPG Maker 2003. However, they're very skill intensive, and many of them don't allow you to emaulate some basic features you might want in an RPG.
I'm wondering if someone on this board would know much about these tools or have had luck with actually making a game.

I've only used 2000, 2003 and VX. 2000 wasn't too bad but it had some silly limitations (No positive status conditions, can only use MIDI format music). 2003 was a much needed improvement over 2000 but it had quite possibly the worst default battle system ever. VX allows for scripting but it uses an awkward resolution, has animations run at 40fps, removes the ability to use battle backgrounds, limits the number of tilesets you can use and has idiotic auto-shadowing on tilesets. What a wreck.
