Nah, it wasn't a few months before Etrian Odyssey released that I decided to purchase a DS (not because of EO mind you, but because there were finally starting to be games that I wanted to purchase). Before then there were a bunch of games that just used the touchscreen as a gimmick.

I fail to see how the 3D will be used as anything more than a gimmick in the future.

They still haven't made that many games that use the touch screen in actual game changing interesting ways. Really, the biggest allure of the DS is that there are two screens, not the touch screen.
