In this image with 3D turned all the way up the background looks like its about 2 inches deep into the screen. Ken and Ryu are about 1 inch deep. And then the Character panels up front like a milimeter or so deep. They look like paper cutouts since they're flat. Decreasing the 3D just makes the gaps between these 3 layers smaller.
The floor is on an angle and looks like it goes pretty far back to the wall. Ryu and Ken are closer to the front of the screen with the healthbars and UI stuff in front of them.
Dynamic view really lets the 3D show though, It actually helps a lot in knowing how close or how far you are from the other characters. The room actually looks bigger too. It's cool once you see it in person as describing it with flat images is a little underwhelming. Different games can use the 3D in different ways/Better or worse.

None that I've heard yet, but the moment I find something I'll be sure to post it. I'm holding out for some 3DS Castlevania : ) It also occured to me today while playing Etrian 3 that this game could really benefit from 3D depth and longer vision distance. Normally when mapping tiles you can see about 4 tiles ahead. This could be notably improved and you could map your location, maybe even the whole room from the point you're standing without having to get into encounters or too much danger.
