Help Kino Build her PSP Library

Postby Kinokokao » Sun Jun 24, 2012 4:20 am

hey guess what I got today

A PSP

(for free)

So now I need games for it. What should I get? I can't think of a single game besides Class of Heroes.

It came with Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness and Persona.

I also have a 4GB memory stick. If that matters.

I tend to turn-based RPGs, strategy games, puzzle/adventure types, and those weird in-between genre games that don't really fall into traditional game categories. I like cute games. I get scared when there are a lot of enemies that I have to kill, especially if I have to do it quickly or with any type of hardcore button-mash skills or intensive play. I'm really bad at that stuff. I also don't like the Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts franchises.

Some of my favorite games (for reference) are Earthbound, Pikmin, Professor Layton, Viva Pinata, Ogre Battle, Harvest Moon, and of course Etrian Odyssey (even though I'm bad at it!)

Persona 3!
Patapon (I have a serious feeling you'll like this one)
Phantom Brave

There's also a few Harvest Moon games out for the system.

I can also see you enjoying Half Minute Hero. There's a demo of it in the network store. One day I'll actually purchase it, too.

Valkyrie Profile? Really don't think it takes too much button-mash skill.

Final Fantasy Tactics is also pretty nice, on the PSP.

Gurumin is another favorite of mine.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

I'm not going to get Persona 3 because I have that already for the PS2. Seems silly to get it twice when I liked it but honestly didn't love it. Also why did no one mention Me and My Katamari? Is it horrible? I freaking love Katamari games, so I'd probably get it anyway...

Here's my list based off everyone's suggestions and my looking at the reviews:

- Jeanne d'Arc (I forgot about this one! I totally wanted it when it first came out)
- Tactics Ogre
- Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon
- Yggdra Union
- Half Minute Hero
- Phantasy Star Portable
- Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky
- Phantom Brave
- Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
- Loco Roco
- Popolocrois

Also I'm not going to get Patapon because it's a rhythm game, and I suck terribly at those. Some of the ones on this list I'm a bit unconvinced I'll like; combat/battle is definitely not my strong suit. At all. Like. It's embarrassing how bad I can be at games considering how much I like to play them.

I would recommend giving the demo to Patapon a try, Kino. There's a demo for both both the first two games. You can decide if you'll like it based off of that. I, too, am terrible at rhythm games, but :3 Patapon is so incredibly fun and not terribly difficult.

Also, I noticed you put Innocent Life on your list. You know my obsession with Harvest Moon games so I hope you know I speak from the heart about them. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH INNOCENT LIFE!

It was just that horrible. There is no dating. The farming sucks. And it was all very just thrown together. There are a few details that I liked, but I could not enjoy them for all the other bullshit of the game. It's your money, of course, but there are other Harvest Moon games for the system that I'm sure would be far more interesting.

Thanks, Maxine! I trust your opinion ^^

I think the other HM games for the PSP I have/have played on other systems, though. A Wonderful Life on the GameCube (omg did I ever play the tar out of that game) and Save the Homeland on the regular Playstation.

I'll grab the Patapon demo and give it a shot, I guess. I like "not difficult" as a game descriptor :3
