What's your favourite RPG archetype?
I just had this discussion with one of my Dokapon Kingdom groups. You know, when you play an RPG game, you say "Oh, I want that!" or "I wanna be one of those.". Sometimes it matches one personality, sometimes their desire, or just what they generally feel the most comfortable with.
I left an "Other?" option incase I left out something important, which I don't think I did. :3
I voted for Thief/Stealth. I don't like attention and I like lots of options to work with. I really rather be able to choose battles and avoid things when I can. If it's a MMORPG, this works pretty well. Though in cases where the game doesn't have a stealth class, or it wasn't done very well, I like alternative support classes. :3 Being just a healer is so boring. I rather be able to do more than that. I liked the Scholar of Ragnarok Online and the Bard of Final Fantasy! If that still isn't an option, then I fall back to just generic supporters like healers and suck it up. ¬ ¬

Mmmmm, I pick ranged/physical. I use to enjoy tank/melee characters, but now I find more charm in a ranged character with firearms or something equal to that.

I think tanks are the most important class, though it's only fun to play in MMORPGs where you can piss off a lot of stuff and not die 'coz you have a bunch of healers. In most games, whether it's not a group environment or lacks a way of diverting threat, they just suck. I hate how Vikings can provoke in FFIII but not Knights, yet Knights can cover the wounded but Vikings can't. It bothers me even more when magic damage is the worst thing in the game and Vikings are the most vulnerable. :[

Voted for Alternate Support.
Usually buffs and debuffs make or break tough boss fights/superboss fights, and alternate support units usually are a jack of all trades with regards to this. Reminds me of myself in a way.

I'm really not one for the "doing one thing really well, but can't do anything else worth a lick" kind of stuff, so a hybrid usually does it for me.
Buffbot/Healer
Melee/Debuff
Stealth/Healer
Healer/Caster (<-- my favorite in most situations, depending of course on the game and ruleset)
Favorite hybrid from NWN:
Elven Wizard/Cleric
- Caster/Healer/Melee-ish with Dev. Crit. (pretty funny when it actually lands)
- Caster/Healer/Dex. Melee
- Magic only
still need to try for a decent build combining Epic Dodge, Dev. Crit and decent magic (yeah right, keep on dreaming...)
My fav. hybrid class from WoW:
Shaman!!!
Though I'm beginning to appreciate the Paladin as well.
I'm a dwarven paladin, short an' stout.
This is me hammer an' this me free mount.
When I see an en'my, I scream an' shout.
Put up me bubble an' hearthstone out.
edit: removed a typo

I voted magic users. RPGs for me are (usually) all about the planning and tactics. In RPGs that aren't just button-mashers, mages have to think about which spell to use and when, lest they pretty much waste the turn. Well, all of the previous and blowing things up with giant flashy fireballs is pretty cool too. I know I didn't explain that very well, but I'm a tad tired at the moment and am too lazy to think of better word choice.
