:( Since I was in middle school...

I wonder if I did it to myself. There were many many nights that I spent reading in the dark when I was a kid. Me and my sister shared a same room. I strained my eyes to read in a dark room so that I wouldn't disturb her with a light.

Bah! But, a LOT of people in my family wear glasses so... I guess I just hit the wrong family gene. *shrugs*

there is no scientific evidence to suggest a connection between eye strain and eye damage

you could tape your eyes open and stare at a TV for a week and it wouldn't damage them or permanently hamper your sight

I have worn glasses since the 3rd grade. The first year I had them I could get away without them unless I needed to read far away. However, after one year my eyesight had doubled in terribleness.

The next year, the doubled again. And again.

It's slowed now that I've stopped growing/ended puberty, thank goodness, because I don't have much more I can lose before it all goes, or so it seems like!

To give you an idea:
My eyesight is so bad, that if I accidentally drop my glasses to the floor I cannot see them. I cannot see from the edge of the bed to the floor, either. I usually shout for my fiancé to come help me find them.

I can't read anything with my glasses off unless it's about 4 inches in front of my face. I have yet to find a sign or billboard with text big enough. If the average person could see the sign at 800 feet away, I would need to be 20 feet away. (Not that I can see anything 20 feet away, but that's what that whole 20/20 scale means)

My lenses are a quarter of an inch thick... and that's after we pay extra to have them decreased!
