Pokémon cards and just general Pokémon anything ruled the world for many years, especially at my school.
Tamagotchi's were big things, and incredibly annoying as well.
Oh, there was this fad of yo-yos coming back into fashion, but not just normal yo-yos but ones with gears and pegs and they'd be spinning for ages before they'd destroy your fingers and stuff like that.

*looks up Crazy Bones*
Ooh. I don't remember them at all, but a bit of googling reveals them to be rather cute and collectible. I can see how that could have spread around.
I couldn't get a yo-yo back up if it had a motor that did it for me. -_-;; (And iirc some of them did, too.)
Pokemon and NeoPets. Yes. My sister was crazy about NeoPets, and we were both into Pokemon for a while.
But Pogs... man.
