Official servers of Ragnarok Online, for the FULL FUN GAME cost a monthy fee to play. For a while now (but only recently in America), they also have Free-To-Play official servers with a kabillion unfun penalties associated with them and they make money through cash shops. There are also hundreds if not thousands of private servers out there which are always free. They generally have higher rates of EXP and item acquisition and convenient features like healers, warpers or even job changers. The downside of private servers is generally the communities are really dumb unless it's a server aimed at a certain demograph like EarlyRO.

I know this hasn't been touched in a while, but a certain game keeps nagging at my mind: Custer's Revenge.
The gameplay was redundant and watching general Custer sexicate (or rape; I can't tell) an indian woman tied (or not) to a cactus while dodging disappearing spears wasn't particularly arousing, so that aspect of the game's out.
It's hard to argue that the game wasn't dumb, really.
