I think the dumbest video games are sports games. Why play that when you can go outside and actually play sports, right? Who's with me?

Most of the games brought up in this thread don't particularly strike me as being dumb, to be honest. I'll admit to never having played any of the Imagine games, but they seem just fine for what they are (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, however.)

When I think of dumb games, what comes to mind are games that are made unplayable due to poor design choices. And I'm not talking about bugs or glitches or whatever, but poor design choices that were implemented on purpose for some inexplicable reason. (Like the rotating camera of Brandish, etc.)

PS: Sports games are fine by me, although I don't like to play them. It's no different than watching sports on television. In defense of NFL games, it's significantly easier to play the videogame version than rounding up 21 of your friends and finding a vacant 100 yard field on a sunday.

Yeah. Just because you don't understand them, doesn't make them bad. I understand sports games and I know why people play them. It's not hard. Do I like them myself? Not one bit, but I fully encourage people play them, especially with friends and family. Even if you had the space and equipment needed to play the sport, the game will offer a different experience. I mean, that's just like saying "Why play *insertbeatemup* when you can just go out into the streets and beat up criminals yourself?" The guys on my father's side of the family who like playing football games often go outside to roughhouse during family gatherings given the right time of year, and two of them are building up in dreams to play football professionally.

Not a fan of Madden if only for the fact that it somehow makes me feel dumb every time I try to pick it up and play. And I used to play football (alright, just High School level fine shut up I hate you). Not that I dislike the games I just always feel way too dumb myself when I play them and it makes me cry on the inside T.T Especially when every other competitive game (FPS/TPS, RTS, Fighter, even some Rhythm [Just Guitar Hero/Rock Band]) I'm awesome at.

My definition of a "dumb" game is that, to me, it is pretty much lacking substance or is a "dumb"* port. Latest example would be the Dead Rising Wii port; graphically raped, removed a large majority of the original game concepts (for better or worse, depending on your take), and where the hell did all the zombies go? After the RE4 port that was relatively in an upward direction (albeit it did make the game easier), it's a little sad how bad DR: CtyD is. It does have a funny acronym though.

In all honesty, I can't think of a game itself as "dumb" so much as certain design / gameplay / whatever decisions as being "dumb." Like, Star Ocean IV and the fact only [s]two[/s] three locations are on fucking Disc 3? I want to do some Item Creation (IC) so I happily go to the Calnus on Disc 3. Oh, but wait, I need X component that is on a prior planet ... I HAVE TO POP IN DISC 2 TO GO THERE. And then I farm materials (up to the 20 item cap) and then back to the Calnus and DISC 3. Repeat a lot. Thankfully Duplication is done via the Skills menu at least so Magical Clay farming of Synth components isn't as annoying. As.

Doesn't help the first Bonus Dungeon is on Disc 2 as well >>.

Also, Faize (real spoilers liek whoa):
Okay, fine, I understand you LOSE him so he's meant to probably suck. Probably. But, on subsequent playthroughs, you can opt to get him INSTEAD of Arumat, who is beastly incarnate* (when he gets Dragon Roar and it's 907% Damage Bonus). But the real kicker is that Faize is built as a Melee/Caster hybrid but has the worst INT in the game, low ATK growth, NO PHYSICAL SKILLS AT ALL, and has no redeeming skills to Chain Combo since his best spells are Menu Cast only. What the fuck.

He does have a cool Blindside though! MATRIX AIR SPIN DODGE!!! ...

...though his normal attacks are a bit subpar. Maybe something non-lame can come about stacking massive +Chance to Hits and letting his rapier-poking normal attack combo hit for like 50 times but who knows. He's pretty worthless.

*Even if Meracle is probably better than him when synthed out due to her Crit Rate (Inherent + Critical Hit + Focus) and her techs multi-hit more. Plus X-Claw juggling is lame and cheap. Also, she has an amazing blindside, though Arumat's is pretty awesome too (backstep to Teleport).
*Yes, I realize using "dumb" in the definition of "dumb" is dumb**.
**Fuck...using "dumb" in the ... oh screw it.

I dunno. I don't mind, usually, LOOK A LOT MORE ENEMIES GO GO GO GO for difficulty depending on the game. FPS, I like them since, otherwise, they're pretty easy. Enemies with lame 100% accuracy 429056890425 meters away difficulty can die in a fire but the gigantic swarm I welcome. Action RPGs, same thing; they're pretty much too easy anyway so it's awesome (plus more of the usually good combat system).

But, in games like Assassin's Creed? Oh boy ... more chances to counter you and watch you die. Again. And again. And again. And again. Just drags it on. Ditto for Prince of Persia (silly Ubisoft...). They're not hard, they're not interesting, it's just [s]5[/s] [s]10[/s] [s]20[/s] A LOT OF EXTRA TIME doing boring things.

Edit: Obligatory mention, Luc Bernard's Eternity's Child.

I was referring to stuff like this;

You go through a dungeon, kill 100 goblins. At the end, you fight another 100 goblins. Then your partner warns you 100 goblins are at the entrance trying to seal you off, but he's injured so he tells you to fight the 100 goblins with just the heroine. Then after that, you find out another 100 goblins are planning to ambush your friend back at the end so you got to backtrack and fight100 goblins again.

Now, that has never really happened in a game but I've had similar experiences. Same enemy, same damn music, damn challenge... just laziness to increase the difficulty.

Does Dynasty Warriors fit your description?

I have no idea why I find Dynasty Warriors interesting. I really, really, really don't.

Well, by interesting I suppose I just mean fun. I like making stuff die en masse (i.e., Bolivian Army Endings ... without the, you know, horrible death attached to them).

XD Maxine, you're terrifying! I never knew you loved Dark Cloud that much.

We own it, now that I think about it. I've never played it though, it's my fiance's.

Hm, on the subject of dumb games; I saw Trivial Pursuit for the Wii and....

...and I kind of want it. >___>;; I'm sure it's terrible. Like when my grandma had Monopoly on the SNES. o__o why did I waste so many hours playing that game?

ETA: Very rarely, sometimes my mother let me rent a video game. I remember one time I rented a Casino game for the NES.

A Barbie Casino game.

KKINO I FUKKIN LOVE YOU MAN
