So can someone explain how the co op sections will work please? All I could figure out is some vague thing about boats and bosses.

Locations on the ocean that unlock boss fights can be discovered with the ship. Those bosses can then be fought either with NPC or other people.

but who does that work? Is it like a strategy where you maneuver your ship around them each turn or do both parties go up in the traditional battle style of Etrian?

The boss fights themselves are just normal battles (no ocean exploration involved).

Is there anyone here who has played through all (the Japanese version) of EO III, or at least most of it?

[spoiler]If there is, would you say the addition of the water exploration and mapping makes up for the lessening of the labryinth floors? Or prefereably maybe even makes it longer than prior EO installments?[/spoiler]

Just would hate for it to be a shorter game.
