Monks armed with books

I misread your post and missed the bit on the ATK change but Self covered it. In general, the displayed ATK/DEF is useless (it's never actually used in a formula). Rely more on your STR, wATK [Weapon ATK], VIT, and aDEF [Armor DEF].
And the glitch I mentioned is for active skills. You can sacrifice an Armor (and/or Accessory) slot to have a better base wATK and still use the activated skills.
And, yes, most the mastery skills are pretty useless by themselves. They're just useful for unlocking other skills (and, well, the +2-11% Damage Multiplier). As for Monk's Fist skills and the usefulness of it ... I wouldn't know as I never found much use out of the Monk class altogether, really.

After having looked at the skill tree simulator, the monk seems to be one of the very few (or only) classes that can inflict curse. Given that I have a prince as well as a monk.
I also subclassed her with princess, and the powerful healing bonus from Form Qi plus Royal Veil (and subsequent skills) means I rarely need to use healing skills anymore, so I'm starting to see the use for a bad-ass healer

Re: Monks armed with books
Ha, you can save ental if you upgrade a monks fist and kick attack in skills, then they don't need any sort of weapon. For the longest time I put a sleep book withy monk and it was awful, and did dung damage, because it apparently just uses the book with no other attack.
And how can you damage a thing with a book? Smacking it? Boring it to death?
I find it much easier (though still on the first stratum) to begin with a weaponless Monk. :3
