I recently started EO3 and I already finished just main story of EO1 and
know basic difficulties but after I beat the first stratum boss I could not
take out anything in the second stratum.
My team composition were like these by the time I killed first stratum boss
1 Gladiator
level: 12
1 Monk
level: 12
3 Prince(ss)
level: 12
What I did was stack Prince(ss) with max Royal Veil and
have Triumphant Roar. Every time when all of my Prince(ss)
lose hp, I heal one of them with Monk and snowball effect
with heal.
Gladiator and Monk does the best damage in the group but
Prince(ss) are pretty much free attack/passive heal.
I always put the Indomitable (lives through a critical attack
with 1 hp) on the Monk so that he lives and heals Prince(ss).
I killed first boss fairly easily (but took a long time) however
by the second stratum my team gets decimated because
once in a while they focus my Prince(ss) who are in the back-
line and wipes 1 or 2 of them reducing my regular heal then
killing me by wiping rest of my team. Using potion is not an
option because then I'd be having too much deficit in my
income to actually explore properly.
What can I do to progress further from this point? (because I
used this route to avoid grinding)
I Need help on Stratum 2

Yeah.... all those team members are defense. They are not going to be very strong hitters at all. I suggest changing one of those Princesses into a Buccaneer or a Hoplite and putting them in the front row. Or get an Arbalist and put it in one of the rows (either row and they are splendid). :\ You don't even need that many Princesses to begin with ^_^. One has been more than enough for me.

I don't really see how a Gladiator is for defense aside from having decent HP >_>
I never had much luck dealing massive damage with an early game Sword Gladiator, as the hammers you find early in the game seem to far overshadow the damage output of the swords.
But yeah, you have no heavy hitters aside from your Gladiator.
Also, front row Arbalist Double Action + Front Mortar = face rape.

Too many main Princesses in my opinion, it's a great sub class later on. Also Princesses can hit hard when they have to, I currently have a Princess-Gladiator in the main and a Princess Arbalist on standby. Throughout the second Stratum I had my Princess on the front with a Hoplite, sure they'll target the Hoplite more often because of the high hp, but they can take a hit and dish out damage.
Consider the following:
Arbalist: Giant Killing and Barrages are great
Pirate: I used a Gun Buccaneer for the second and third stratum. Rapier is probably better in the long run.
Hoplite: These are just great to have especially during difficult fights. Enemies will always target Hoplites more often.
I recommend nabbing the Hoplite and then Arbalist if you can part with a second Prince.

I had no healers on the first or second stratum. What that means is lots of medicine and lots of grinding for components to make better weapons. I know not everyone will do that but I just want to say it can be done without healers in the party.
I used a Hoplite - Gladiator in front. Ninja (cloning) - Arbalist - Zodiac in the back. Spamming the Clone really helped my Guild survive.
I this case I would drop a Prince(ss) and pick up a Ninja.

I just killed the second stratum boss with my first party.
It took me 72 turns to kill it... but it was worth it.
My team was at full hp by end turn all the time, I managed to do around 50~100 damage each turn. It was a dreadful match...
Thanks for all the helps you guys posted but, I'll stick with my current party as it works for me the best at the moment. (P.S. Scy was right on with the comment about me not buying any equipment, except maybe weapons.)
