Question: How does a play-by-post go about?

I don't have any idea how to host a proper play-by-post, and was wondering if anyone could guide me through the process, a pathfinder game sounds fun and I have the materials, but I don't know how to get started or what to do. I've tried reading on some forum one of my friends does Play-by-posts on, but all I found was kinky sex storys after three or two people went in, not a good learning tool. So I would appreciate any help from you guys, thanks.

I had assumed everyone was aware of the terminology, but from what I've heard, it's like our RPGs, except based on actual rules.

So, I think it might be like this:
DM asks people to do campaign
People post character, including stats, class, race, description, feats, so on and so forth. (Around here, it gets fuzzy, because sometimes they do this, and sometimes they go straight into the kinky sex, controlling other peoples characters and such, which I'm sure is normally against the rules.)
The DM presents situation.
Players say what they do.
???
Profit!?

not sure how one deals with the books seeing as the book stores i go to are gone but eh im sure theres a way through that

some like to make a detailed story about their characters and sometimes they just want to go ahead into the story with a quickie

yes controlling another is usually so unless they have permission or something

Penny Arcade forums has them. :3 The threads have commentary and metachat, so it seems the actual game takes place through some other means. Possibly it's not actual play-by-post at all, but table-software or webcam-play.

IRC works wonderfully for over-the-net tabletop games. Especially with the assistance of Dicebots.

IRC is like having an active conversation with people, except through text. There's a few trade offs, but it's second-best to just straight up being in person (or better if you're shy).
