Looking for Secondary Palette Character Art

Postby Wave-tan » Wed Feb 20, 2013 4:17 am

Hey guys,

The team has been having a Hell of a time finding reasonable resolution artwork that depicts the secondary color palettes of the various classes, nor have they had much luck finding quality images of the NPCs that apparently join you.

I don't suppose anybody out there has had better luck than we have and could point us to some resources?

We'd rather not ship this little project without the requisite materials. Worst come to worst, even small images could do. I'll just chain an artist to his desk and make him recolor all of the existing artwork using those as reference.

I'd rather it not come to that, however. (¬、¬)

Well, if you just need reference images for your absolute worst case, the official web site (http://www.atlus.com/etrian4/classes.html) has all the alternate color palettes available and on display. As you said, far from ideal, but resources are resources, especially when you're desperate.

I think my artist is going to go blind trying to work with such small images. Oh well. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I salute his valiant sacrifice to be. <(-_-)

http://sq4.atlusnet.jp/#/CHARA_INDEX

The ones on the jp site are a bit bigger, just click on each class then hit the alt color button. sorry I don't have a better solution entirely!

You can also just try drawing the normal dancer in monochrome and then use the alternate colors when coloring it digitally (or just draw and then use monochrome gray markers like I have for my Dancer when I draw him...)

The demo also gives you a full view on them.

It looks like we're shy on good artwork for the Imperials, regardless of color palette. We've managed to come up with solutions for the Arcanist and Bushi A palettes, at least. I'm surprised it's as difficult to find some of this artwork as it is, given how long the game has been out already overseas.

I'm not surprised.. I still can't find the scene backgrounds for the previous games without doing a lot of work (if I even find whichever I'm looking for). I'd especially love if there were HQ large resolution files of all the background town scenes for each game.

As it happens, we had a small stroke of luck and found a reasonable resolution image of the A palette Imperials. It took scouring Google image search in Japanese to get anywhere. Still no decent B palettes so we're weighing temporary solutions.

It sounds like the leading option will be lower res B palettes where we have them and de-saturated A palettes where we don't. We'll recolor by hand and replace them later if this artist is worth their salt.

That, or I light them on fire. Fun for me, less so for them.

If we stumble across good background files, I'll let you know, Xiados. What resolution are you hoping for?

Definitely. It took a little google searching to find my own avatar because so few websites have alternate colored classes.

I'd be looking for at 800 x --- or larger. 1024 x --- like those on here aren't bad either. But even here, there aren't very many of them (thankfully there's those few).

I did find six for EO4 a week or two ago, just after the demo was out. They're 1000x511 and 1000x533. I don't know if I found them off of here, but I'm pleased to have the day and night versions of the city, city 'entrance/exit' and inside the airship dock. I'm more than happy to send them to whomever to get them uploaded if possible. They also work nicely as Facebook cover photos. :D

I'll politely ask someone to check back through our stock. We may have some area screens for Etrian Odyssey III that we didn't use for the calculator.

By "politely," I mean with a nailbat.
