Re: EO Untold Rantage!
best to have a prot, unless you have something using stigma and another using refresh or if higher level stigma just doesnt really bind you much you wont be stopping bosses much.
@.@ EO4 and the forever binds.
Though I kinda hope they give us something similar to the grimoires. Something with a set drop rate that doesn't need you to align guild card numbers.
Seriously killing bosses with their skills would be awesome.

Re: EO Untold Rantage!
This game is pretty annoyinh but thats, from my viewpoint due to two things
Skill points matter more and you have to be careful what you max b/c lol 10 points per skill.
2. Even if you build in a smart way it may just make progression slow, which makes story hard if you respec or allocate points without any real idea of hat should get priority.
Also the damage you take has always been partially level based, yeah? If so the fact you can actually go to 99 makes things way easier.

Re: EO Untold Rantage!
So the game gives you all these class choices, but most people seem to use the same 5, or at least 4 of the same 5.
Shouldn't the game be made so that, with proper strategy, you could beat any boss with any party? And without over-leveling.
I mean why should you have to use certain classes just to be successful?
What's the point of so many choices, just to fill the 1, or maybe 2 open slots in most player's parties?

Yes, I'm the one person who actually liked FF XIII.

Re: EO Untold Rantage!
I've beaten it on Classic without a Protector, and without a Medic, but never without either.
My favorite team is probably uh
Protector, Ronin, DH,
Medic, Hexer.
The Protector with Ronin skills, the Medic with Alchemist skills, and the Hexer with Gunner skills.

Re: EO Untold Rantage!
A lot of complaints about EOU stem from the fact that the translations for the skills are more often wrong than they are correct, and judging from what I am hearing from people who are playing the English version, this is true.
As for Tail Coil, the chance of binding is currently unknown, but as suspected, it is not very high.
Furthermore, the only mastery I believe is actually not worthless is the Formula, because it can stack on itself, albeit only once on top of itself... Then again, you're only going to want to aim for 3 elemental spells by post-game anyway, and none of them come from the Alchemists themselves, so...
EDIT: The worth of the Protector being kinda bad in Expert is a fault of Expert ramping up the damage enemies do to 166% of Standard more than anything, though, so while I suppose it's a valid complaint, I don't see it too fair to undermine the usefulness of the entire class as a whole simply because it's just not great in the hardest difficulty in the entire EO series.

:[
GAH! I need to level up some more I think. I think going to floor 4 is too much or I'm seriously fucking up with my team here in story mode. How am I going to have taken out my first wolf, see that Raquna only has 22 exp left for a level up, and decide to take on a regular monster .... to be defeated by that regular monster (I healed after the battle). ......... OMG RAGE!!!!! Damn beetle thingaenemy!! and two venomflies!!!!!
Which skill is better to concentrate on for Hero? Draining Thrust or Legion Thrust?
Actually in retrospect I don't really feel I'm screwing up my team, I think I just did a lousy provoke/regenerate when I should have shielded front line. Also I need to get a damn grimoire stone on simon that will allow him to use a decent weapon... what the hell I was thinking with a staff.... *mutters*
Also: this is probably not the best game to play when you are fighting insomnia trying to fall asleep. *sigh* >_> now I'm pissed off and wired.

Re: EO Untold Rantage!
Also, just a general remark, not that I'm mad or anything, but... it is something I do kinda want to mention cause it is how "I" feel.
I've not really been interested in posting on this forum since before the game came out and now even more now that the game IS out. I'll tell you why: the over excessive negativity. I don't mind general complaints here and there and obviously if you are disappointed with the game that's fine.
However, I'm enjoying every second of it: it's a piece of nostalgia for me and it's rather frustrating that in my attempt to enjoy the game to come onto my own forums and to see out of the few dozen posts almost every single one of them consistently remains negative. (I would say 8 out of every 10). It could be my misfortune that the few times I jump on to read it is nothing but negativity but... it's jarring. I want to come into this thread to happily rant "damn... slaughtered again" but instead I see a post ranting about all the game's flaws which makes me angry and I just end up walking away and picking the game back up and burying myself in it without bothering to make a post.
So, I'm going to bring the positive and pray that the atmosphere returns to at least be balanced out:
This game is nothing short of beautiful. They took a game that I loved dearly and they made it better. EO to me has never been about classes or rng or battle numbers. To me, it was always about hearkening back to old school and just being SIMPLE. It is a linear game: you go into the dungeon, you come out, there's no overworld to bother. Half of the time you don't even know WHY you are mapping out this dungeon and taking on these creatures - but it doesn't matter. The story was hardly present but when it did become apparent it was fantastic and sent a chill up my spine and made my eyes widen.
This game is not EO4. It is not EO5. This game is a remake with a few enhancements and mild attempts to fix some of the balance issues from the first game. I didn't want a new game. I enjoyed EO4 but I've felt that as the series progresses it gets more and more modern.
I enjoy the simplicity of the game. If the game has a few flaws in strategy or concept: I don't give a damn. I want a fight - I want the promise of rage quitting and game over screens and the stupid mishaps of forgetting something as simple and stupid as a warp wire.
This game is nothing short of beautiful keeping the old school logistics from the first, while still managing to enhance it with some of the gimmicks found in other games. So, if you do not see me posting in this forum frequently it's because I'm sick of hearing the nay-saying and I'm too busy with the BGM Style option turning it constantly to Old and then back to New... take a few steps and turning it back to Old again. ... *sigh* No... It has to be "New".
Somehow out of all the FOEs and monsters that have done me in, deciding this is the hardest challenge in the game.
See, I would rather complain that they gave me this stupid option that now has me banging my head against the wall rather than complaining Y RNG H8 M3!

Re: EO Untold Rantage!
I don't really understand. I've played through classic mode many times, and the protector consistently diverted attacks, and in cases where enemies were strong enough to regularly hand out KOs, the protector was often the last man standing by sheer amount of HP and defense, even with provoke. Most often, provoke was what kept enemies from smashing softer ronins or dark hunters standing next to said protector, and it certainly meant parry and stuff was more likely to trigger. i basically played the game with provoke consistently being used at the first turn of every battle, and it never bit me in the ass.

Re: EO Untold Rantage!
@garrett:
as I mentioned at the start of the post or tried to make clear: I'm not yelling at any individual, and I don't really care what you feel about the game (well, I DO but I mean that I appreciate you have you own opinion while I have mine) I'm sorta yelling at the whole. So, please don't take offense or think that I'm yelling at you garrett - I didn't want you to feel that way since I realize yours was the last post.
When I get on and read yet ANOTHER post being negative to the game I almost want to start a drinking game. One shot for every time someone mentions the voice acting sucks, one every time someone mentions a class issue, one and a half every time someone mentions a glitch (when DOESN'T a game, eo or not, have this), and two if they mention a flaw in the game's mechanics - If it's a pre-existing flaw, down the whole bottle.
Seriously, I don't care and you're entitled to the opinions and truths and I'm not so blind or ignorant as to be like "nah, that doesn't suck at all". BUT there are so many things the game does RIGHT (and I actually enjoy the voice acting - I'm even warming up to Raquna's voice) that it would be nice to just see more conversations on that as well.
Seriously I'm enjoying the story mode. I can't wait to see how it plays out and how Frederica's existence changes or fits into the plot of the first game. XD Seriously, though, I love the whole game atmosphere. I love that the characters talk on-map in response to things. It makes me feel that I am genuinely walking the labyrinth with this group of characters. Every time someone speaks out a warning that the monsters are getting ready to attack, it puts me on edge. XD And every time the hero makes that "tch" noise as the battle begins I almost jump out of my skin. I was so afraid that have the characters like this with the FOEs on full display that it would kill the dark, deadly atmosphere, but it didn't. It's actually managed to enhance it.
