So... I pray to God that if SSQ messes up on story AND character, then I hope the lack of sales on this spinoff isn't supposed to invoke them to cancel EO5 because of it. I would be depressed if it is...

I have mixed thoughts on this announcement. On the one hand, I'm all for experimenting and revisiting the Etria setting in a spin-off. It could be interesting. On the other hand, if they decided to retain this particular direction in the next numbered Etrian Odyssey title, I would be...decidedly unhappy, shall we say?

I enjoy dungeon crawlers but they frequently have weaknesses in terms of story. I'll be watching this to see how they've decided to try and balance the game they have with the game they apparently want.

I know nobody is going to care at this point, but I wrote another misadventure with Lacuna, Simon, and Arthur in the 18+ Panel. I really liked getting critiqued on the first fan fiction with them, so I went with a setup that would provoke chaptered ideas. Firstly though... Who would like to to go rescue those three?

When a character dies in a normal RPG with story line...
Me: Oh man. Cloud is dead, gonna be a hard fight.

When a character dies in Etrian Odyssey:
Medic: NO! I... I...!
Protector: Focus danm it! We need you on this!
"Failed... n...ever should've come out here..."
"(Slap) We're all in danger here! She knew the risk"
Rune Master: Bigger problems... Big game.
RROOAAARRR
Protector: It's too close... Fall back! RUN!"
Dancer: I haven't had to run like this since--
Medic: CLAIRE! NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR IT RIGHT NOW!

Personally I prefer the latter.

Alicia: "N-no! I'm nearly gone again..."
Aria: "Alicia behind me! We need your spells. Just focus! Kenith, hurry!"
*Aria dies protecting Alicia* Alicia: "Nooooo!!"
Kenith: "I got her! *heals* Focus on defeating that monster. Trust me on this! I still have plenty MP."
Alicia: "B-but there's no way she'll live long enough for someone to heal her!"
Reina: *Puts her bow down* "Dammit... I swear, I'm the one who should have tried to subclass as a healer, sometimes! I'll be ready with a Medica! Kenith, hurry and revive her! I can't reach her so I'm just going to toss it! Catch!"
Kenith: *attempts a revive but perishes before it's successful*
Medica falls on the ground and breaks.
Alicia: "We're doomed!!"
Mayeina: *Burst Skill: Double Cut* *Enemy falls* "See, and that's why you just need to focus on destroying the enemy. Now that the battle is over, we can take care of our comrades."
Alicia: ".... AND THIS IS WHY KENITH IS A LEVEL BEHIND EVERYONE ELSE!"


^_^ EO Just wouldn't be as much fun without these little inter-mind plays.

I'm pretty bad at making my own plots/backstories for games like these, so my characters all end up just being blank slates.
