I wish this game won't make disappointment again.
Horrible NPC seiyuu cast like EOU2, the problem is they put Yuri Yamaoka instead of Kaori Nazuka. (Yuri Yamaoka is related to Risa Taneda) If drama CD is released in 2008, it would have better cast in remake.

EO series characters have appeared? Alt color is awesome. Third/Fourth portrait characters will be announced later.

I don't think Bravely Default is a good comparison to Persona Q, because it IS a Final Fantasy in term of gameplay AND universe/story (the cristals, Warriors of Light, etc...).

If I can pick a good comparison game, I think Hyrule Warriors match it better : two games mixed up, one brings the gameplay mechanics, the other brings the background universe. And like Hyrule Warriors is neither a Zelda game nor a Dynasty Warriors game, Persona Q is neither an Etrian Odyssey game nor a Persona game.
It is its own game, and I still need to buy it and play it... and now I want this new crossover, 'cause I love dungeon games <3

I think the concept is really even simpler than what Garrett is saying:

How are they being marketed and presented by the publisher?
The developers of Persona Q, other than giving it gameplay mechanics and a clever "Q" in the name have said nothing about it being "Etrian Odyssey" other than to reference it as "it plays like Etrian Odyssey."

As for EOxMD -the website is attached to EO5 and they are marketing as an EO game. They are going to great pains to say that. In fact I've not even seen a single hint thus far of Shiren or his white-rodent companion.

I think 'Mystery Dungeon' is a common term for such games. See for examples (the search term is "不思議のダンジョン", Mystery Dungeon). Pokemon, Chocobo, Dragon Quest, .. I don't think any of those have Shiren in them.
