I like your idea that the story is the key services to the fan base. After all, if I want something ecchi (and possibly brainless or nonsense), I would go for some galgames.
P.S. by this I do not mean that every galgames are brainless or nonsense.

Well I will never know how exactly others think of the term, but when we talk about it in Chinese, we usually refer to a set of unnecessary scene and settings that are more sexual-oriented, like a male character "accidentally" crash into a female's chests and you know where his hands will always land on. Sometimes we even refer those anime/manga as "meaty" for, you know, those unrealistic meat and their magical movement.

Yes, to me fanservice includes everything that fans like. Of course, it's somewhat hinting towards a meaning were "what fans like" is something sexual. I won't lie, I do like juggling breasts and other things ecchi, but I don't think fanservice is limited to those kind of things.

I don't know the meaning of "titillation" and my dictionary translating it as something like "thrill" doesn't really help. Wipipedia directs me to "Tickling", which also doesn't make a lot of sense.

I'm really not a fan of fanservice in general. But honestly, as long as you don't put it in front of my face, I don't care.

So I guess I don't have a problem with there being Etrian Odyssey fanservice, but I do have a problem with there being fanservice in Etrian Odyssey. Which vote would that be?

There is Etrian Odyssey content that does not exist in the games. The comics, for example. (Though that is not an example of fanservice.)
