I think so, yeah. I would still request that everyone please read that a friend handed me today.

I need to cuddle so much right now.

it's pretty dumb yeah but

first of all there will never be a draft again barring WWIII. enough people enlist for basically any conflict we could have in the near future.

if WWIII DOES happen, chances are the US has messed something up so bad that it would be better to run to canada anyway

I doubt the draft form will ever be totally abolished barring sweeping general government reform. It would be more likely that women eventually have to sign it too, since more and more are seeing combat.

However, that ALSO probably will never happen, because should the draft be needed, you then have a situation where both men and women are being send overseas as soon as they're old enough and.....it doesn't take a genius to realize that such a thing would cause collapse of infrastructure. You can't have Rosie the Riveter when no one is actually around to Do It, so...yeah. And if as a government you have to pick half of people to fight on the ground in a war, you're gonna pick the half whose hormones promote much greater growth of upper body muscles etc.

Yeah, it sucks knowing that if you weren't a man you wouldn't have to deal with the draft, but not only is it logical, you also won't ever have to deal with the draft anyway lol

well, at the time, you could rip a man out of his family unit (if he had one that young) and it was more likely the woman could take care of herself or her children if she had any, and since the draft age was young, the kids were also usually young, at an age where typically a nurturing mother figure was needed the most (and gender roles at the time typically meant a dude wasn't nurturing)

family structures since then have obviously changed, but with enough of the old gender roles still intact that there's no reliable way to send half of the eligible population to war without fucking up family structures and potentially our future

so uh my point was gonna be the draft methods wouldnt have a good enough reason to change one way or the other, but once more it brings home the fact that the draft probably will never be used again. it's just another one of those weird outdated traditions the US is too afraid to totally get rid of.

I don't think that the kind of dad who'd stay behind to watch the children would be clinging that tightly to old gender roles, if the families were given a choice between parents. Either way, I'm not sure I agree that sending more women instead of men would mess up family structures or our future. :/ Am I giving dads too much credit here?

i'm not saying it would mess up family structures more, i'm saying it would mess up more family structures

as in more kids are taken care of mainly by their mom than the other way around

I know plenty of divorced or separated couples where that is indeed the case, and it is super unbalanced because the mom is batshit crazy and uses the kids to manipulate the dad or punish him. All while he has to work two jobs to pay his child support and barely gets to see the children he loves on every other weekend. And you and I both know, noodles, that plenty of family structures aren't that great to begin with (mine being a prime example and representative of a great many others all too similar).

all im saying is, the draft already would mess with families, and more women take care of kids than men, so it's unlikely the draft laws will change to include them

I actually find the idea of mandatory civil/military service to be very agreeable, but thats not really what we're talking about here. Might that be a topic for a different thread?

(Whats funny is that I think filthy socialist pigs like myself and hyper conservatives could probably come to an agreement very easily on mandatory civil/military service in the United States if everyone would just stop shouting so much. Of course maybe I'm biased, since I'm on my way out of eligibility.)
