Though I'm not that fond of Judeo-Cristianity, and would not really want to be legally incorporated with it ( Yes, I know that other cultures have bindings but I believe the one in question is the Judeo-Cristian one ), I would like the option given I've had a serious relationship with both human genders and would probably have submitted if one of my partners had wanted marriage...
I suppose you just have to look at it in a future perspective. One day, fifty years from now, a teacher is going to talk about the civil right movement and include things such as "The Montgomery Bus Boycott" and "Jim Crow Laws" and say them in the same breath as "DADT" and "Civil-Unions" and a high school student won't understand how prevalent discrimination was and how people could treat his best friend, who just happens to be gay, any differently. And yes, it's a religion problem but so was evolution and both ( evolution and homosexuality ) have existed long before religion. So, rather than leave you with the words of John Scopes, I present the only other sound that brings a tear to my eye other than "Over the Rainbow":
