I just did it the old-fashioned way - until I ran out of patience with the Ice Drake, saved at the Geo field at B16F, and just kept hiking back there again and again. Got it (the last scale!) on my third such try.

Just a note: Before that I'd killed all the Teraliches in B26F and the 3 dragons in one day, so whenever I warped into the Claret Hollows to continue mapping B27F, if I saw the Teraliches I knew the dragons had respawned as well and I could go on another hunting trip.
