In my copy the abbreviations are La, Su, Pr, Da, Me, Al, Ba, Sa, and He.
Hmm, wait a sec. What does 'Sa' stand for? I'm pretty sure Ren (one of the two women guarding the door on floor 3) was called a ninja. Don't tell me they changed 'Ronin' to 'Samurai' too. Do they think European gamers are ignorant or something? Sheesh.
ETA: Just checked the Guildhouse. Yes, 'Sa' stands for Samurai, and 'He' for Hexcaster.

The manual shows character ailment icons for three different 'binds', but in the game it's called 'sealed', and they all look identical like thorny vines covering the left end of a character's info box (about where the icon would be, but larger). Is this a mistake by the programmers/documenters, or my misunderstanding?

All "binds" do look the same appearing only as vines on the left side of the character's box. However, there are three different sort of binds: arms, legs, and head. There is no way to tell the difference aside from the battle info saying "Shiana's legs were bound" (or something to that affect) and then when you go to perform and action it will not let you if that particular action is included in the bind.
