IMO, EOII has the most difficult 1st strata in the series. Crawlers are a headache to deal with at the beginning.
Then you have Raflesias later in the strata.

So is protector a must early game, or are they post? And how would I grind up new members anyway?
EDIT: Oh right, how does one do a gathering party anyway? III had farmers+Combat Study, and apparently warns you of ambushes, and well IV is everyone being a natural gatherer.

I'm currently using a level 38 protector and he's not doing much for me...I think I should max provoke? maybe I'll get some use out of him then. any suggestions? having issues getting past the mid boss in the third stratum.

That's a good point about provoke. I'm debating if I should replace him with someone else. I know I'm going to have to rebuild the group I have, since I'm a total newb and feel that I messed up their skill point distributions. so far I'm liking the ronin that I have.
