Well, I'm a fanficcer and a daydreamer by nature, so naturally I've created backstories, personalities, etc, for my party. What I'm wondering is if anyone else did the same.

The Story of the Paragon Guild

It has been a year since the secret of Etria's Labyrinth was uncovered. The Paragon Guild, after uncovering the true secrets of the Labyrinth, parted ways, each swearing a vow both to the Radha and themselves that they could never let the true nature of the Labyrinth - and their world - be brought to light.

And though each have been left to their old haunts and pursuits, a flicker in them refuses to die, memories of camaderie and friendship, of venturing deep into unknown lands, of laughing death in the face. And once in a while, they look up into the night sky, glimmering with a thousand points of light... and sigh.

Then it arrives. To all of the old Guild that had traversed the very depths of Etria's Labyrinth, a single, sealed letter.

'This is Franz. I know I haven't had contact with all of you in some time, but I need your help. The Grand Duchy of High Lagaard is known to possess a gigantic tree within it's realm - and this tree has a Labyrinth within it extremely similar to the one we conquered in Etria. They even have a legend about a Holy Grail at the top that'll grant you endless life and power if you drink it.

I need to get to the summit. I know this is all a bit rushed, but if you're available, could you make your way to Lagaard as soon as possible? I haven't the time to get into the details now - I'll explain later when you arrive.'

And as they perused their letter, some shook their heads silently, wondering if they were to simply drop everything and head straight to some town they'd barely heard of before. Others grinned, stood, and grabbed ahold of their gear - still oiled, shined, kept in preparation for the day when they would have need of it again. And still others chuckled to themselves as they tossed the letter to the ground, for where else would they already be but in Lagaard itself, where adventure had called so strongly?

And to those who came, they met standing at the entrance to High Lagaard the Holy Knight they'd fought alongside a year ago. And standing at his side, clad in coat and hat the colour of the sky, was a young lady, gazing disinterestedly at the lot.

The second advent was about to begin...

"Stay close to me. I can't guarantee your safety otherwise."

In the year following the events of Etria's Labyrinth, Franz has apparently taken up residence in High Lagaard, along with his wife Amelia. He has a commission to explore the Labyrinth from his superiors in the Order of the Silver Rose, but apparently enough is classified that he can't say much more than that. Melody tags alongside him, and he's extremely protective of her... for whatever reason.

Nominal leader of the Paragon Guild, but rarely exerts his authority.

With a sour expression seemingly etched permanently on her face, Melody is a relative mystery to everyone but Franz, who seems to understand her perfectly - of course, he's not sharing whatever secrets she may have. It's not even sure that Melody is her real name.

She's competent enough, and fulfills her role well, but... doesn't really get along with most.

After traversing Etria's Labyrinth (and developing an undying hatred for sandy places along the way), Eurydice and Orpheus returned to their home for a well-deserved rest.

Shortly after receiving the letter from Franz, she packed her things and prepared to set off. Orpheus would have come along too, except that fighting Primevil had left him worse for the wear. As in, he only had one arm left. He took this in stride, though, telling his wife to 'Get there and carve up the biggest, most ferocious beastie the world's never seen, sweetheart.'

Eurydice currently lugs along Etria's Town Crown, as a token of sentimental value.

"I - I'm no fighter. I just do what it takes to keep everyone else alive..."

Having won considerable fame amongst Etria's populace for successfully cataloguing every animal, plant, and mineral in Etria's Labyrinth, Cassandra nonetheless could not shake the sense of regret at the town losing much of its bustle and life with the Labyrinth conquered.

After receiving the letter from Franz, she waged an internal war with herself as to whether she could really, in good conscience, abandon the Ceft Apothecary to travel halfway across the world. The final decision had been made by her grandfather, who'd shrugged, chuckled, and said, with melancholic humour, that 'the Apothecary hadn't seen much work lately, after all'.

Also, he wants her to pass a parcel to the head healer in the Lagaard Hospital. Something about him being a worthy apprentice and whatnot...

Now officially a couple with Ewan, the two of them went off on their own to spend 'quality time' together. Said quality time involved accepting job offers from various mercenary organizations, rooting out bandit encampments, and the like.

Upon hearing of the Lagaard Labyrinth, they made a beeline from the town and were on the cusp of signing up with a guild when the letter from Franz reached them, via a rather large string of chance happenings. Shaking their heads at the serendipity of it all, they set out to hook up with their Protector friend.

(Said guild they almost joined got their assess kicked by a Stalker and left Lagaard in shame.)

Hit: Rosalina. And fire. Lots and lots of fire, delightful crackling little tongues of flame scorching everything in sight. But mostly Rosalina. Really. Honest.
Miss: Water. When not used for drinking.

"No, seriously, stop trying to sell me stuff before I set you on fire."

Having fallen for Rosalina in the course of their previous adventure, Ewan gladly travelled with her, experiencing her rather... active lifestyle, and using his arcane abilities to great effect. A childhood friend of Franz, he's more than happy to help his buddy achieve his goal of climbing the Labyrinth. Naturally, he and Rosalina have become extremely proficient at the 'Chaser' style of combat.

"Three hedgehogs attempting to conceal themselves behind the foliage, a woodmai to our left trying to decide if attacking five of us is worth satisfying an empty stomach, two moles underground trying to attack from both sides. And well, the Crawler dead ahead, of course."

After regaining her memories and her name, Miranda continued with Eurydice and her team to conquer Etria's Labyrinth, before striking out on her own.

On the anniversary of the death of the Atropos Guild, she had just finished revisiting Etria Labyrinth's tenth floor to pay her respects, and had barely stepped into the sunlight again when she received Franz's latter. A shrug, a tiny smile, and a new adventure was on its way.

She has a semi-rivalry with Melody ongoing.

An aged practitioner of shaman lore and its trappings, Orville's many botched experiments had an adverse effect on his skin tone, turning him as pale as a ghost. Tales of the Royal Grail at the Labyrinth's top had led him to try his luck at the Labyrinth, in the hopes that it would restore all that the years had taken from him.

Gruff in demeanour, but he's been travelling long enough to know that pulling the nobility card gets him nowhere fast. Specializes in the healing aspects of Shaman lore.

Deeply distraught at his parents giving him what he considers to be a girl's name, he nevertheless grins and bears it, since most of the people he meets don't seem well-versed enough in the ancient tongues to understand it. Mistakenly joined 'Paragon' in the belief that it was a great name for a travelling pack of ministrels. After realizing his mistake he shrugged and signed on as an explorer anyway.

If you hadn't guessed, he's rather easygoing in life.

"Wait, three sword style? A Santoryu? Now that's just plain silly."

A quiet, unassuming child, Motoko was perfectly content to let the secrets of the Reiji family's legendary mastery of the blade pass on to her older sister.

...Until said older sister ran off with a man to High Lagaard, and was last seen venturing into the Labyrinth with her romeo. With a sigh, Motoko grabbed her own sword and found her way to Etria, intent on dragging her sister back home the instant she finds her.

Of course, the fact that the Labyrinth may well have claimed her permanently seems to have escaped Motoko's mind - at least for the time being.

Shathra's run of bad luck and muddleheadedness continues. After exploring Etria's Labyrinth she'd ventured off to the library of Hermits and picked a book she thought would make a good read.

Naturally said book was home to an ancient (well, rather old, anyway) malevolent spirit trapped within and the instant she opened it he rushed into his new host.

His initial exuberance was quickly replaced by bitter disappointment at two realizations.

Firstly, he had just possessed the body of a 13 year old girl. A 13 year old girl that wields the powers of Darkness, Torment, and General Unhappiness, true, but a 13 year old girl nonetheless.

Secondly, his hundred (or so) years of being trapped in the book had atrophied his powers to the point where he's not so much 'possessing' Shathra as 'playing audience to whatever she does'.

He annoys her with his endless prattling about death, darkness, rituals, and incantations, but since she's more or less stuck with him, they've learnt to put up with each other. It's almost like having a sibling living in your head.

Now there's a scary thought.

Oh, yeah, she accepted Franz's invitation to Lagaard, if you hadn't guessed.

"Look, you'll only feel a pinprick. Okay, not so much a 'pinprick' as 'horrible, agonizing, stabbing pain through every fibre of your being', but that's not as bad as it sounds!"

A master of the blade, sworn to purge evil where he finds it, he's dedicated to removing Calis from Shathra's body, but seeing as the ritual is very, very time-consuming and would require ingredients such as boiled sheep eyeballs, Shathra's pegged Calis as the lesser of two evils and has thus far refused Marik's pleas.

Marik joined Labyrinth quest primarily for gathering some of the rarer ingredients of the ritual, much to Calis' dismay.

"Of course I can talk. The thing is, you humans never listen."

Carl's lazy, sarcastic (in his own way), and usually refuses to go into the Labyrinth unless bribed with a quart (minimum) of freshly-brewed ale first. Still, once he gets down to a brawl, there's relatively little that can remain standing after taking one of Carl's paws to the face.

He joined the party at someone's suggestion, but no one can agree on who.

"Was there a party, and did I miss it?"

Having earned a fair bit of wealth from the Labyrinth, Lash set out into the world to enjoy his newfound riches.

Lash was so far away that by the time he finally got Franz's letter, thought it over, and decided to head to Lagaard, the rest of the team had finished up the 1st Stratum. Of course, his whip skills are always a welcome addition to the team. Now, if only he'd wipe that stupid sarcastic smirk off his face...

"Hm. I believe we were heading that way?"

Extremely prim and proper, Rosary joined the Guild in the belief that the riches of the Labyrinth would be the best method in restoring the waning fortunes of House Verlaine. She was somewhat disappointed to learn that many of the 'riches' were parts of dead animals, but nonetheless she's certain that the Royal Grail at the top would be a worthy prize.

She works well with Matthias in combat.

Matthias lost his wife several years back, and since then he's become withdrawn, distant, and generally introverted. Some rumours have pegged him to have sworn vengeance against the gods themselves for taking his wife from her, but since no one can get him to say anything, it's hard to confirm or disprove the rumour.

After splitting up with the rest of their former gang, the 'Broke-Down Pair' decided that their fortunes where best served exploring, harvesting, and generally doing odd jobs for Labyrinth explorers. They continued in this vein for a while until they realized Franz had entered Lagaard, whereupon they promptly joined his Guild.

"Blood and glory!"

Originally known in some circles as 'The Crimson Rider', the nickname became mooted after he lost his noble steed, Warsong, in combat. Thereafter he fell into a state of depression for a good bit, before finally rousing himself. Some say he's chasing after a female assassin, but that's neither here nor there. Prefer swords to axes, and therefore has an ongoing rivalry with Rosalina.

Has a childhood friend named Elena he has not seen for some time.

Whatever his intentions, no one can deny he's an excellent sniper, specializing in a variety of elemental shots. He's laid back, and he seems to take a keen interest in Melody for some reason.

Found lying wounded in the outskirts of town, Hachiko was nursed back to health by Grit and since then has followed his friend and master wherever he may go. He's been known to jump in front of those he considers friends to take hits on a rather constant basis.

A practitioner of the recently discovered art of 'physical' magic, Aran earned her nicknames by her ability to summon spikes and blades out of thin air to flense her opponents alive. Joined the Paragon Guild mainly so she could field-test her powers in the dangers of the Labyrinth.
