Hi, all. Found this awesome site through Wikipedia. Nice to meet all of you!
I'm just baaaarely getting started with EOII but I can already tell I'm going to love this game. I had a quick question which I couldn't seem to find in the manual.
What causes the force gauge to go up? Is it when you receive damage? When you inflict damage? Does it go up based on time? etc.
I noticed that when I leave the labyrinth it seems to go back down to 0 again. Are there tips on building it up faster?
Thanks in advance!
What causes the force gauge go up? (newbie)

Numbers:
+ 2 Force / turn
+ 1 Force / attack (Attacking or being Attacked)
+ 2 Force / kill
- 5 Force / Escape
So, for example, you start with 0 Force and over the course of a 5 turn battle, you attack 5 times, are attacked twice, and kill one enemy. Your total Force is:
5 * (2) + 5 * (1) + 2 * (1) + 1 * (2)
10 + 5 + 2 + 2
== 19 Force
Also, Items that give you Force when used:
Axcela -- +30 Force -- 1,200 En
Unlocked by:
1x Pale Hull -- Nozuchi Common Drop (5th Stratum enemy)
1x Life Honey -- Common Take (5th Stratum)
Axcela II -- +50 Force -- 20,000 En
Unlocked by:
1x Harpy Wing -- Harpuia Common Drop (4th Stratum Boss)
1x Pop Leaves -- Rare Take (6th Stratum)
And, finally, weapons that increase the rate at which you earn Force:
Salamox (2nd Stratum Boss; Floor 8):
Flame Puff -- 30,000 En -- Conditional Drop (Kill with Fire Element)
Unlocks: Agneyastra -- Gun
ATK +202, STR +5, Force+
Cost: 331,000 En
Flygourd (4th Stratum Invisible FoE; Floor 17 and 18:
Curse Vine -- 2,050 En -- Conditional Drop (Kill while Fully Bound) (Requires 3)
Unlocks: Dominator-- Dark Hunter Whip
ATK +196, STR +8, Force+
Cost: 350,000 En
Asterios (6th Stratum FoE; Floors 26, 27, 29, 30):
Axe Shard -- 5,120 En -- Conditional Drop (Kill while Arms Bound) (Requires 3)
Unlocks: Dragvandil -- Sword
ATK +189 Force+
Cost: 312,000 En
Riptor (6th Stratum FoE; Floors 27, 28, 29, 30):
Call Horn -- 4,860 En -- Conditional Drop (Kill while Head Bound) (Requires 3)
Unlocks: Dragon Axe -- Axe
ATK +200 Force+
Cost: 292,000 En
Force+ results in +300% Force; that is, it takes the old numbers and they become:
+ 8 Force / turn
+ 4 Force / attack (Attacking or being Attacked)
+ 8 Force / kill
- 5 Force / Escape
Using that same example as earlier:
5 * (8) + 5 * (4) + 2 * (4) + 1 * (8)
40 + 20 + 8 + 8
== 76 Force
