I would hesitate to call it McD's counterpart, as I view Tim Horton's in a different sort of light than McD, BK, Wendy's etc. It is at its core a doughnut and coffee place, whereas those others are primarily burger and soda places. I would liken it more to Krispy Kreme or Dunkin' Donuts or something...
