My experience on Ad Nihilo is mainly: 1) Golem, 2) Divine Judge, 3) I needed it vs [hide]Automaton King & Olympia, to bypass her defense.[/hide]

It's also a handy trick against any enemy that likes to use defense buffs on itself, since if you can cast it early, they've basically wasted a turn.

Oddly, as I've been wrapping up my EOIII playthrough, I've been getting to itch to do another run of Rune Factory 3, the game I beat right before it.

1) HAHAHA no. They have pretty terrible HP and defense, and I don't think the buffs are strong enough to compensate for that. I'd hazard a guess that Shoguns are pretty much never decent Hoplite replacements. Yggdroids with Hoplite subs, on the other hand, can sometimes make better Hoplites than act...
