I think 'Mystery Dungeon' is a common term for such games. See for examples (the search term is "不思議のダンジョン", Mystery Dungeon). Pokemon, Chocobo, Dragon Quest, .. I don't think any of those have Shiren in them.

I agree with Maxine. Persona Q has Persona characters, story, everything except the engine and a bit of play style really. For EO×MD it's the reverse situation. Only the engine and stuff is MD , everything else is EO . (In any case, if Persona Q counts as EO somehow, I'd argue Strange Journey counts...

Well, they have to change the battle mechanics anyway because party members move separately. It would still be a lot of work to put in that many classes though.
