I live by myself. My apartment has a LOT of corners to hide behind. The time of day I'm most likely to see scary things online is in the evening. Oh, and I'm afraid of the dark. Possibly the only reason I can handle scary things at all is that I'm already in a perpetual state of terror.

It SOUNDS like you wandered in the "wrong" direction. But if that's not the case, then try the level 16 area of a different race. I've used that to get over humps I accidentally created for myself before. (Plus it's a good chance to get some extra skill point challenges done. =3)
