I love being alone in a game ... if the game's narrative/atmosphere/etc. is building that. Demon's Souls definitely does. You're in a world thrust into a nightmarish scenario and there is no hope. It's a bleak and dreary world. Most the NPCs reflect that. Hell, your tutorial in the game [hide]ends ...
