Re: ITL Book Club - Sign Up Now!
Maxine, seriously,no one's going to care, and the fact they're shorter, easier reads fits perfectly with the mission/goal of the club for its members to read more books. A couple titles I've thought about are YA reads from my childhood that I'd like to re-visit. I would consider the four Sherlock Ho...

Which raises an interesting point --
what does the club think about narrative and creative non-fiction?

Anytime you want to jump in, Starfe, just let us know! We'd love to have you.
I'm going to laugh when you assign us your school reading, and then mine the book club discussion for a take-home final.

Re: Favorite Books and Current Reads
One of the rules is that members must be able to find the book through the library. There's always inter-library loan, too, if you have a small or limited selection at your library! I don't want to bankrupt anyone, or force people to go out and buy a bunch of books. Libraries are a great resource, a...

Re: Favorite Books and Current Reads
I would think that mystery novels and the like fall into the category of "sequels" and not "series" -- fantasy especially just too often falls into the trilogy trap, in which the first book just sets up later events, and the whole story is incomplete without the following titles....

Re: General Writing
Well. I'm stuck. Or, rather, I'm absolutely frozen with indecision, and second-guessing everything I have written. And it's all my characters' fault. I've been rambling for a while now about how utterly out of control they've been, and it's true. They've turned the story completely on its head. It's...

Re: Favorite Books and Current Reads
Piggy-backing on to what Scy said, on the matter of first books: If you've read the whole series, and tell the book club to read the first book, how fun is that for everyone? Horribly not fun, because you know how it all ends. We're on unequal footing for discussion, and the whole point of a book cl...

Re: Favorite Books and Current Reads
Well, think about trying to discuss just the first book in a planned trilogy and long series. How can you evaluate a book whose story is incomplete? The characters never complete their journey, the plot doesn't get resolved -- the "Monster of the Week" might be defeated, but the rest of th...

Re: Rant/Complain Thread: QQ moar
I don't want to get drunk, that's not it, it's just that I really love beer. I love the way it tastes, I love the different styles and types and I love to try new beer. Not getting to have any beer, not even one with dinner, is awful. I hate it. But! I don't mind. I was the designated driver for 4 o...
