I had fun with it, despite my initial hesitation, but I think that largely reflects the group and how seriously they take it. Just serious enough for it to be fun, but not so serious that it's a chore to play. Although one of the guys is like THE stereotypical D&D player. His character was an 84...

Well, manga publishers in the US have tried a number of different distribution methods, including the early days of mimicking the comic market -- monthly issue releases punctuated with collected volumes -- and the currently 2-4 month collected volume release schedule has proven to be the most consis...

Ahh, good ol' SP* always has a relevant comic for any tabletop gaming discussion! I wouldn't appreciate a turn-timer since I'm still learning the rules and mechanics, so I like to ask questions and clarify. But I'm trying to be a good player and keep up with everything as best I can. So far for my c...

I remember being so embarrassed about buying yaoi when I was a teenager that I'd try to hide it from my co-workers or mix it in with a bunch of other stuff so they'd hopefully never notice. I kind of do the same thing at work. Whenever I want to order books I'm careful not to let Sarah, my boss, see...

Nothing wrong at all about e-book readers. E-books are, honestly, the better way to be buying things if you want to support authors anyway (their cut is ~25%*, up from 10-15% for physical copies). Ebooks have drastically risen the front end sale of books and your average author is doing better unde...

Waiting 3 months is a bit different than 5 years. Fantasy authors are notorious fuck-ups in this regard; even JK Rowling got huge flack for taking a year off to have a baby rather than crank out the next Harry Potter book. There's a reason why even mega-prolific authors only release 1 book in a seri...

They want to have plenty of time to release the book, market it, distribute it, receive net invoices, deal with return credits, etc. before releasing the next. Fastest release table I've seen is every-other-month -- I believe this is more common for series which have a lot already released in Japan ...

That sound like horrible fun-killing rules, especially the turn timer. Also this isn't my group; I'm crashing into a pretty established group. There's sometimes a small child that runs amok, food, drink, couches, coffee table -- and, yes, the girls seem to want to hang out more than they want to adv...

@ebook versus hardcover You keep slipping into gaming examples, which I have no basis from which to argue physical versus digital.... but: Which is not a problem with the digital version itself but a problem with the publishers and current arrangement. Which is true, publishers are switching to an a...
