Ah, alrighty. I've just got the 4th badge yesterday. Still a long road ahead of me.

I've finally managed to train up a team of six Pokemon! One of them is not at 50 just yet, but I expect that to happen today. I'm ready for the weekend...

If a Z comes out and we get a Charizardite Z but no second Mega Stone for Venusaur/Blastoise, I'm gonna get angry.

And hey, just beat the E4 and get your Jolteon afterwards. When your team can beat the E4, it can do so again with one less member and a Jolteon to benefit from Exp. Share probably right away. That's how I train my Pokemon after the Ev training.

I like Venusaur (and I picked it because Charizard is an overrated piece of ugly...though the Y version looks neat). There might not be many physical differences, but they are visible (in particular the size...the Mega Evolution takes up a lot more space on the screen). Also, Thick Fat. Decreasing the damage taken from Fire and Ice type attacks is nice for Venusaur, it helps against the massive horde of Charizards (because, let's be honest, all those nostalgia fanboys are gonna stuff the thing full with Fire moves and not a single Flying move). Mega Blastoise is really neat, but out of the three it probably has the least useful ability.

Some of the really interesting stuff seems to involve actually fighting other people. And I have no idea what the hell I'd be doing to do so.

It's simple!

You go online, click that little grey icon on top of the touchscreen, go to the Battle Spot thingy, and then you battle. You can play free battles and ranked battles, single, double, triple or rotation. The game automatically looks for somebody who's playing the same mode as you, and then you battle. You get to choose if you want to use Pokemon in your Battle Box (box with space for six Pokemon), or those in your team. Three for single battle, four for rotation battle, six for triple battle, and I forgot how many you get for doubles, but I think it's four.
You see your opponent's six Pokemon (battle box or team), and then have like two minutes to choose which three, four or six Pokemon you send into battle. And then you two just battle it out until one wins, one disconnects or one gives up.

...I hope I didn't misunderstand the "[...]what the hell i'd be doing to do so.", because if I did my paragraph was basically a waste of space >_<

It kind of was. Keep in mind, my knowledge is limited to the first games. I know nothing about proper breeding, EVs/IVs, good natures, etc. Natures are probably the easiest, but then once the idea of making a proper team, and making it all work, is probably beyond me. And getting a synergetic party in EO is hard enough.

So basically, making a team that doesn't just get destroyed, because that's probably going to happen, and I've always either sucked at pvp or just don't feel the need to try hard enough.

There's lots of sources of information out there to get you started! Don't be afraid to look up things and read up on how to breed and whatever, because it's what everybody does. For me, getting proper IVs for my team is something I'd never try to do because it's just too complicated, so all I do is look for a good nature and then train EVs based on what I consider to be useful. I probably won't end up winning tournaments, but at least I can wipe some smug guy's butt because he thinks a team of Yveltal, Xerneas, Zygarde and Mewtwo in a Rotation Battle is super über mega powerful.

Super Training makes the whole EV training so easy. Even if you're slow, or not too good at it, it'll take maybe an hour at max to get a Pokemon fully EV trained. And it's more fun than previous generations, because you don't have to constantly walk through grass hoping to encounter that one Pokemon on this route that gives you the EVs you need. Instead, you shoot balls at a balloon bot until it pops. It's actually kinda fun.

Looking for a Gengar before 6th gym . Have the Haunter. Now need working online. Made the request a bit ago, but deleted because my internet hates my 3ds and refuses to let it go online to do any trading. Went to GTS after a reset and it cut out early in the search.

Resetting system does not work.

EDIT: OK, so apparently my router is just being a FUBAR right now. It's doing the weird still connect fully on the computer (including FF14), but have a red X over the connection. So...
