It's more his terrible moveset than anything else. 75 ATK/SpA blows, yes, but he also has all of like ... 3 good moves. And one is Special based. And requires Contrary to be awesome/sweeper material.
The metagamer in me is all *shake fist* at him and the playing-for-giving-no-fuck is *shake fist* at him while he goes dealwithit.gif.
[spoiler]Seriously, he has Hidden Power and Leaf Storm from a Special Attack perspective and Leaf Blade, Aerial Ace, and Iron Tail from a Physical Attack perspective. The latter of which are using two fairly bad attacks (60 base power on AA, 100 base power with 75% Accuracy on Iron Tail) and Leaf Blade runs into issues of typing.

Still, that smugfuck is my starter and I can never ditch my starter[hide]before the post game[/hide] so there he is being a dick.
Edit: Don't get me wrong, I chose him 100% based off his design when I knew nothing about Black/White. Learning more and getting into thoughts of post-game/competitive/etc. area, though, makes me kind of sad at his stats since I'm a fan of his design.

Anyway, shaping up my group to probably be:
Snivy - Grass
Joltik - Bug/Elec
Venipede - Bug/Poison
Tympole - Water/Ground
Drilbur - Ground/Steel
Timburr - Fighting
But ... Timburr seems so bland (eww, just ... just FIGHTING?!) and just more Ground and Rock attacks coming from him that are otherwise taken care of by basically everyone (seriously, half my team can learn Earthquake wtf). Dunno what to possibly swap in his place if I do end up not using him.
[spoiler]And why can't Tympole learn fucking Waterfall assholes. Oh well, there's Ground specials now so I can just go Surf/Sludge Wave/Earth Power and feel like he can still be a winner.[/spoiler]
