Even though a Fox won the whole thing, we had all different characters in the top eight. I honestly feel the majority of the roster could have been taken to that very same level and fared admirably.

For example, I know first-hand that Roy is grossly overlooked.

Fun fact: Roy is in some ways, faster than Marth.

In a game where you utilize so many quick jumps, the faster falling speed means you return to the ground faster. Falling to the ground faster means you can attack again faster, or defend yourself. Roy has significantly more gravity than Marth. In summary, Roy overall spits out attacks in greater frequency than Marth. It also means Roy is one of most difficult non-heavy weight characters in the game to KO off the top.

Roy also has better throws than Marth, and far superior special moves. The Double-Edged Dance and the Flare Blade both far exceed the Dancing Blade and Shield Breaker respectively. Against fast-falling characters, he has 0%->death chain-grab combos that lead to a fatal forward smash. This absolutely destroys Fox, Falco and Falcon.

In general it just took too long for people, particularly in America, to realize they just needed to alter their perspective to appreciate what Roy has. There are a few awesome Roy players in Europe and Japan that I was able to trade tips with, though.

Also lighting the enemy on fire is pretty cool.
