~o~ I wonder how the Mother series will be treated this time around. It is pretty much dead for the time being so they have nothing new to work with. Maybe if EarthBound sells well enough they can get someone new to direct the games.
Dosei-san/Mr. Saturn will no doubt make a comeback, and I hope the Franlin Badge as well since that was a lot of fun. All three of the stages we have seen were cool in their own right; I played a lot of Fourside in Melee. For those privy on advanced techniques, you can really make the most of the wavedash on-top of the UFO. I kind of want to see M1 get a stage or something. Mt Itoi?
I kind of want the characters to be re-interpreted. Ness's design worked really well in SSB64 (initially) because hit-stun was elongated and no one but Link could defend themselves in the air. Going forward, he was awful in SSBM and almost as bad in SSBB. A few people used Lucas in SSBB but he really ages poorly as players improve, which seems to be a going trend. Even going back, Ness was a top-tier character when SSB64 first became a competitive game, but these days he is near bottom after people learned how to fight him.
If they are brought back in their current form I can't see them getting any better. The biggest cause for their demise is they have no reach and, unlike other characters with little reach, little ways of getting in. They are slow, easy to attack, easy to defend against, and have some of the easiest recoveries to gimp. It just isn't working.
I kind of hope we get a slightly more full-bodied Ninten as a replacement, who actually uses the moves he gets in his game, but still has the same kind of floaty fighting style of the current PK users. I don't think PK Thunder is a great idea for a recovery when basically everyone in the cast can jump off and get you before it has a chance to work.
Case in point: Imagine if Pit came into Smash Bros looking like he did in his original game. He is still partially deformed now, but the better proportions make him play better and his updated kit allows for more interesting moves. Even if the Mother characters could be a head taller it would help the characters a lot. Also, Ness's instant stomp from SSB64 was nice. ;)

o.o Aw.... I really liked the items in Brawl! Especially the Franklin Badge! This one time I picked one up so quickly that someone didn't see me grab it. They had a Super Scope and they were charging it, so I just ran up them and taunted and watch them blast their own face off.
Besides, i think items work more in favour of projectile users. From the experiences of a Samus player, the Ray Gun helps campers more than pursuers, and the Beam Sword gives her an advantage in close quarters combat. In fact, Samus is the best melee weapon user in Melee, having the fastest attack rate out of all the cast. Not sure what the data is like in Brawl, but it's still pretty good.
I have mixed feelings about carrying items as Link. If they have projectiles themselves, I kind of like having my shield handy. >~<
Anyway, I thought Brawl had awesome items. The Super Bomb was a lot of fun, and the mobile crates had a lot of strategic use. Also I liked to make obstacle courses for them on the stage builder. ^~^

Well some items were okay. I actually thought the mobile crates were fun, and the Beam Saber helps out characters who are somewhat lacking in melee combat.
Smart Bombs, Deku Nuts, Fans and Smash Balls were the main ones I had gripes with. The former two, are too easy to hit and can cause some pretty unfair situations. Especially the Deku Nut since its virtually invisible with all the carnage going on.
The fan seems to be capable of stunlocking which makes it a cheap way to easily rack up a lot of damage. I don't think I really need explain Smash Balls.

I wish we could have had Final Smash attacks without Smash Balls. Like if Smash Bros adopted super meters like other fighters have. Of course they would have to be weaker in order to be reasonable.
Smash Balls as they were clearly favoured some characters more than others. :/

Better off, either just , or make it an item.
Meanwhile, over at Nintendo:

I hope that if they don't change the way final smashes work that they at least change the spawn rate of smash balls compared to other items. I felt like they showed up too often.

I almost always play with all items off and no smash ball. Sometimes my friends and I leave on one type of item.
I can't think of the final smash for any of the characters I always use except Lucario's.
