As mentioned, all the clones are together. That is why Lucina, Dark Pit and Dr. Mario are in the bottom right. The developer is coming up-front with the fact they are not full fighters on their own, and probably wants to tuck them away for that very reason. In the past, they tried to play off clones as being full characters, when they're not. Consider this a more honest character select screen.
Given the way Nintendo has responded, I am now convinced this genuine.
ESRB is probably in a lot of trouble. ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ

B-B-But what about Ness's missing stripe!?
Also, people are gonna be pissed about Ice Climbers if this is legit.

i dunno... this kinda goes down a whole different rabbit hole..
is creative liberty an excuse for a lack of attention to detail?
not really a smash bros topic xD

Wii Fit Trainer. I would expect the dog from Duck Hunt before I ever expected her or R.O.B. Smash Bros is not about popular or battle-ready characters. It's about Nintendo history, and plenty of people can remember that character.
Also, .

Possibly. Fans have had a lot of movesets for that character. Everything from carrying the ducks around in-hand and throwing or swinging them, to the other game modes included with Duck Hunt (the clay disks from skeet shooting, and of course a pretty obvious Final Smash.
The graphic on the character select screen suggests the ducks may follow the duck around. We'll see.
Edit - While obnoxious, the fans have implemented it into Brawl, as well as other fan games.

I'm pretty convinced it's legit. The models and animation of the two new characters in the video look too good to fake in such a short amount of time.
Baby Bowser actually looks really interesting too, which is to be expected out of freakin' Sakurai. I expected just smaller and weaker Bowser, but you gotta love the Koopa Car.

i dunno... im not entirely convinced... Ganondorf acting like the slow capt. and shulk only showing off link's Down air and Marth's dolphin slash... they seem like more clones/"remix" characters....
if it IS true, then sure... im just not sold yet.
sure nintendo took down the leaks... which would give it some legitimacy.... but at the same time, only 1 or 2 chacters would have to be correct, i would think for them to act... and Gannon wouldve been a solid staple... plus i personally wouldnt doubt bowser jr. well beyond the whole mario representaion..

We saw more than that from Shulk, though. I remember seeing some insignias appearing behind him, though not a whole lot more than that. And while I agree that taking this, along with anything else about an unreleased game, with a grain of salt is a good idea, it's hard to argue with something as decent looking as this.
Either it's a legit leak, or someone put waay too much effort into making this fake.

A leak is inevitable, regardless. Hundreds of eyes, hands, and ears, handling all this sensitive information. As soon as it leads the desk of the developer, it is cast into a jungle of hungry animals. Much of this, if not all of it, was taken weeks ago. Had they not gotten overeager and told so many people, they would have gotten away with it.
Now the leaker has been apprehended and ESRB has lost a lot of face. :/ For those who don't know, one of the photographs has Brazilian electronics in them, and it was used to expose them.

Even without the leak, there was no surprise.
