Re: Upcoming games
So I finally finished watching day two of Treehouse Live@E3 (the audio is messed up for the first minute or so and the video drops out completely a little at the end, but overall there were less hiccups this time around):
Given its length, there is a lot of uninteresting stuff in day 2, but there were still some points of note.
Before I get into specific games I feel the need to bring up what has to be the best E3 quote of all time. "Ally, you can't be bad at... no one's bad at Mario Party. There is not... my grandmother is awesome at Mario Party, and she's dead."
Shovel Knight (1:27:49): I don't have much to say about this, but it seems like my kind of game. I do think it is really stupid that he fights with a shovel, but the gameplay looks good enough for me to overlook it.
Smash 3DS (1:57:15) Even though it does look better than Brawl I still don't have any interest in this game, but I feel the need to mention it as I died a little inside when the guy said "In the sake of fairness, in this last match, we're going to go all random." "Let skill decide". He really needs to buy a dictionary or something.
Bayonetta 2: (3:03:01) Umbran Climaxes seem like a good idea, as I don't feel magic had enough uses in the first game. I cannot fathom why they included the touch controls though, they seem so simplistic and give you so little control that I don't see why anyone would enjoy using them.
Bayonetta: (4:14:01) I have no interest in the Nintendo costumes, but I hope there is a way to use the Master Sword separately. I think its move set looks fun but I'm not playing with Bayonetta dressed like Link. The changing of Halos to Rupees and the inclusion of LoZ sound effects is pretty weird too.
The only other thing I feel like mentioning here is that I thought it was kind of strange that they kept reiterating how good the woman playing was. Apparently she practiced so much for E3 that she injured herself. They acted like it was a huge deal when she got a Pure Platinum medal, ignoring the fact that it was a short, really easy segment of the first level, with the difficulty set to Easy (Automatic) and that she was using the touch controls, which further automates it.
Splatoon: (7:28:38) I can't believe they are giving this game a third segment on Treehouse Live. I know they are really trying to push it, but it still seems excessive. I also thought it was kind of funny how much they were trying to convince the viewer that the Gyro-Aiming is actually a good idea.
As for the game itself, my thoughts haven't really changed, but I still don't see why they make kills so useless. Even if they just added in something small like disallowing Super Jumps for a few seconds after respawning, it would be so much better. This would still be minor enough that it would be a waste of time going out of your way trying for kills, but would actually have a tangible benefit.
MH4U (8:05:16): I haven't bothered to look anything up about MH4, since I know I'm going to get it anyway and I'm still not even finished with MH3U yet, so this is my first time seeing it in action. Anyway, apparently they are going back to Felyne companions. I hope it is just a cosmetic thing since, whilst I actually preferred them in that respect, in terms of functionality they're not even in the same league as Shakalakas. A single, beginning of the game Shakalaka heals/buffs more in one fight than a maxed out MHFU pure support build Felyne would in the time it takes to clear an entire rank of quests. On top of that a Lamp/Artillery mask set-up with proper skill sets actually gives them decent damage dealing capabilities.
Other than that it looks great; though I think the whole climbing on the monster thing seems weird and I am a little trepidatious about how the wall-climbing will work out, I am pretty confident they can pull it off.

Re: Upcoming games
They kind of did pull it off, although it became a little abusable since it stuns the monster.
Not sure how well the Felynes compare to the Shakas, but since this is post-Cha cha, what they learned in Tri might still carry over. And portable 3rd. They at least have more customization, leading to them being stronger.

Re: Upcoming games
I think the main reason Splatoon got so many segments is because of how excited people got for it, also I have played games with gyro-aiming in which it worked quite well, they'll likely allow you to disable it besides.
Also they should have individual game segments on the nintendo channel so you might look at those so you can skip the games you aren't interested in.

Re: Upcoming games
I believe ProJared said in his hands-on video that the gyro-aiming is going to be optional when it's released, they just had it on there to show that the option is there. Because let's face it, if it was always optional, no one would ever use it for their first time.

Re: Upcoming games
I'm getting a smidge worried about what what rating the ESRB will be giving Persona Q, honestly...
I'm probably going to end up getting the game regardless, if it does end up being rated M though, I'll probably just get it digitally on the eShop or something, having a lone M rated game in my collection and it being sighted by some people (you know who you are) would probably commence an argument that would overall make getting a physical copy not really worth it... But still, Devil Survivor and Senran Kagura Burst got T ratings, why can't Persona Q? I mean, from what I've seen in trailers its not all that bad...

Re: Upcoming games
On a second check, yeah, the P3 team is still using Evokers, not necessarily to my surprise. C'mon, can't you overlook that just this once ESRB? Pleaaaaaaaase???

Re: Upcoming games
Why wouldn't he fight with a shovel? Shovels are weapons.
Besides, he's a Robot Master.

Re: Upcoming games
Maybe, maybe not. Pretty much the idea is the Insect Glaive has its own personal jump attack for anywhere. If it connects and I guess if the mount mechanic is triggered, you can do it repeatedly over and over, keeping the monster pinned to the ground for everyone to wail on. But I'm not sure how 'abusable' it is as I didn't look much into it. If you play solo, it probably won't make a difference.

Re: Upcoming games
^ Sillier than digging with a sword? Well, at the pace of Shovel Knight's digging, even a shovel seems inadequate, but at least it's an appropriate theme.

Re: Upcoming games
Okay, so it's not really the game persay, but I mean, woah. Is this really happening? I mean, it should, the channel is specifically for it.

Re: Upcoming games
At this point, I am pretty sure that nobody else here cares about Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, but I'll mention anyway that Sin has been confirmed to be added to the roster in the console version.
