Well, it makes sense that they renamed him, because originally the P4 crew called him 'Kuma' because he looked a bit like a bear, and then later Kuma reveals that all along, his name really was Kuma!
So now he's Teddie in the American version, preserving the joke. And besides, he does sorta look like a teddy bear, right? XD

In P3, the name of the MC was Minato Arisato in the manga.

bah... I'll just come up with my own name... I didn't like Arisato, either. Kazuki Shuji is what I called him. I wonder what I'll name this guy...
