The issue with the Class of Heroes Kickstarter is that it's executed terribly. And Vic is a little delusional in that he thought $500,000 was basically a guarantee, especially off of swag alone. Swag editions are cute and all but if this was an "Improve the Localization" Kickstarter with some swag editions at higher price points then it would really do a lot better.

However, there's about five different target goals with the money from the Kickstarter and it's lumping too many eggs in one basket, so to speak. Which is a shame as I'd imagine there's a good many people who'd love to support a better localization process but don't care about swag (and/or physical releases at all).

To compare, Double Fine's had a far more reasonable starting goal (what, $400k? Edited: Oops, way the fuck off) and a far larger fanbase; Wasteland is the epitome of a successful Kickstarter right now and even they don't have 7000 Deluxe Editions (granted, their CEs start at a higher price point). If we count all the boxed releases of Wasteland (e.g., $50+ pledges), we're at less than 14,000 of them and nearly four times the target goal (and nearly 5 times the expected backers). 7000 here is just ridiculous. I kind of want to see if Nich would ever share what CoH even sold anyway; I'd be surprised if it was above 10,000, if that high at all.

$100,000-ish with a few hundred CEs and with the goal of improving the localization primarily would have done far better. And then those CEs can be used as proof of concept for future ones to entice more swag.

And the math still doesn't check out despite how much back and forth there's been on the subject with him in regards to reaching the $500k goal and scaling back production.

I wish this thing the best and I put in my $100 but it's a bit overreaching. I hope a "Make the localization better" Kickstarter happens, though. There IS support to be found for making the game better first and foremost and that is the message that needs to get across for the future; trying to have swag carry that point is doing this completely backwards.

@Legend of Grimrock: Pre-ordering is now is 20% off and you get free stuff. It's also like $10 or something which is basically free. I'd watch some combat videos, though, as it's pseudo-real time combat that many people may find offputting.

@Leisure Suit Larry: This Kickstarter feels slimy. The game was already in production (for awhile, at that) and now it suddenly needs $500k?

Edit: There is a marketplace with fruitbaskets you can knock over to make the ground slippery because WTF why wouldn't every game have this?
