its just odd for me... i generally dont buy games in bulk so i consider myself a finish...ist... or whatever.. i beat games before moving on... i dunno why Tales of (Symphonia, graces F, Abyss) fell to the wayside for me..

i can revisit them sometime whenever i decide to get a tv lol

I still need to go back and play Abyss, I didn't get that far on it, also need to finish Milla's story on Xillia since I played as Jude first.

Due to my being unable to get any new games for my 3DS or Wii U because of being broke, I've decided to delve once again into the rich realms of anime MMORPGs, at least until my birthday (27th of March people, don't forget it!) when I can hopefully get some money to get stuff like Bravely Default or Super Mario 3D World.

Anyways, right now I'm rather hooked on Aura Kingdom. I've played plenty of games like it in the past, but this one probably takes the cake for my favorite, so far anyways. I'd explain it, but I'm much too lazy, so you should just look it up. The only real bad thing about it is getting new Eidolons (Pretty much pets, but a lot more useful, in battle at least) is extremely tedious. One day i'll get Kotonoha... One day...

I hate those games. Either you pay to play or pay to win which in the end comes out far more costly than a normal game. The storylines are for shit, gameplay is mediocre at best, and the communities are full of trolls and half the time you are standing there begging and praying someone will take you through one of the stronger dungeons so you can level up a little bit faster. And then when they do take you in, they barely communicate with you and run around doing everything while you are stumbling wondering "which way did they go, george, which way did they go?" And then you get swarmed because they left you and then you die and they get mad because they are wondering why you did not keep up.

And then let's talk about the crappy economies and rare drops. Or the bots. Only the people who aren't afraid to break the game ever truly excel in those games.

While I will admit that most games like that are rather greedy/terrible, I think that at least right now Aura Kingdom's not too bad. Heck, everything in the in-game item mall can be gotten just by playing the game, so there's no real need to pay for anything, unless you want to speed things up and get your Eidolon to level 75 in 10 seconds. The story's nothing special, but not necessarily bad. Most people who play aren't that angry, though I don't do the party dungeons very much so I'm not completely sure about that. Leveling's easy enough that you won't have to grind in dungeons until you get to the late late levels too, so its not a tedious game either. The games also somewhat new, so the economy's not messed up, but I guess that can't exactly last forever. But there are probably bots, though. Not that I've seen them, its just inevitable for any MMORPG.

~_^ sorry, I will just always REALLY hate MMOs.

What I like about MMO's is how there are so many ways to play a good one. I tend to enjoy exploring environments that are above my level cap more than anything, while one of my friends likes to grind his way up to the high levels right away and my other friend enjoys party quests the best. They have their share of problems, but if your favorite part of a game isn't the storyline, (which I assume is your favorite part, Max...) then there is a lot you can get out of them.

There's something more satisfying about wearing rare armor or being a high level when there are hundreds of other players to see you, too. And I love rescuing noobs who are in over their heads and taking them through dungeons like you mentioned. Ugh, you got me wanting to play an MMO again.

What's the point of playing a game if it's not for a good story?

Gameplay.

I listed several reasons, but here's some more. Exploration, interacting with your friends, competing with your friends, improving your character, taking out challenging bosses, meeting new friends, helping others, messing up others, playing mini games, doing cool events, collecting rare items, merching stuff, doing whatever you want.

Have you ever played a smartphone game like flappy whatsit or candy smash? Hardly compelling tales, but people sink hours into them. People can enjoy different aspects of games, and in different ways. Story isn't everything for everyone.

For friends. I got into FF14 because a Twitch streamer I started watching convinced me to get it, and I ended up enjoying myself. I'm on his stream every Monday night now.

MMORPGs are about the community. But keep in mind, it's also the internet gaming community. Which means a ton of the biggest jerks and morons you'd ever meet.

What Fluffer said. We all enjoy different things in games. I like exploration in MMOs and don't mind putting in the work to level up. But yeah, a high troll/nice people ratio or endless grinding for a mere ounce of progress or pay-to-win can suck the fun out of any MMO.
If it's story you're looking for, MMOs may not be the best choice. Regular RPGs or VNs are much better at story.

LOL I'm going to attach like some sticker or something to some of my posts to say when I'm joking or so forth. I was only half serious about that post because that is what matters to me but I understand that others enjoy other things, too.

To me story is the most important. Gameplay is second but yes, still just as important.

I'm trying to think of a game I've played where I enjoyed it because of gameplay despite the storyline sucking... and I'm drawing a blank. I know a few I've played through because of the story even though the gameplay sucked.

I think it's ridiculous to say that you join MMOs for the community because I've never met a single MMO player who hasn't left the game ultimately because of the community.

<3 And dear god visual novels <3333
T-T They are releasing VNs for the 3DS but no one is picking them up and bringing them over. -_- They make me sad. Stupid fucking Americans and their "OMG I HAVE TO READ" attitudes. >_> *sigh* I would kill to read Harvest December...

I am pleased to hear that they are going to be doing a more official translation for Narcissu 2 on Steam. I need to look up how that is going. (Coincidentally listening to the soundtrack right now, haha.) http://www.neechin.net/narcissu/ It was fun that I was able to contribute in some way to the game being released so many years ago (I designed the website)
